GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Shelby Gilkerson of Basha High School loves art of all kinds. Shelby enjoys fashion, boba, music and time with friends. She's an incredible singer and loves jamming on the guitar. She will be pursuing a Bachelor's in Illustration with a focus in video game character design at her dream school, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), with scholarships. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Ava Johnson of Basha High School played tennis for all four years while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She loves to collect vinyl and brings her film camera with her everywhere. She is passionate about the mental health field and plans to do whatever she can to help those struggling with their mental health. Ava plans to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner after college. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Kendal Snyder of Basha High School is a fantastic big sister and friend. She is a dedicated student and passionate individual. She can do anything she puts her mind to. She has spent three years in varsity track and field, lettering in sprints. She loves to thrift shop and works for CUSD Community Education's Kids Express. Kendal is a brilliant young woman who is quick-witted, funny, and not afraid to speak her mind. She is good at most things the first time she tries them. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Carlie Unger of Basha High School is a dancer with KDC for four years (president and vice president for two) and Basha Pom for two years (captain senior year). Carlie is a NHS, National Spanish Honor Society, and National Dance Honor Society member. She has received the National Hispanic Recognition by College Board. She will graduate magna cum laude. Carlie will study exercise physiology at Northern Arizona University in hopes of going to graduate school to become an occupational therapist. She will dance with NAU's team. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Avery Prouty of Basha High School loves cars, volunteers at church, and is always willing to help others. He's a funny and amazing person who has the biggest heart. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Hailey Snow from Basha High School loves muscle cars, flag football, and working out at the gym. She is sweet, caring and sensitive. She has overcome a difficult start to life, but she has flourished and become an amazing woman. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Dale Jorgensen from Basha High School is a NHS member and student-athlete who is up before the sun rises to work before school. He maintains a high GPA, gives his all at baseball and the gym, and is often not home until after sunset. He has an adventurous spirit and won't shy away from anything, from cliff jumping, to a tough hike, to boarding down a black diamond. She is passionate about representation and access to diverse media and print. Jamisen is dedicated and driven in academics. She is destined for greatness! GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Gabriela Dugan of Basha High School is kind, caring, and passionate about science and the importance of women in STEM. She is an Impact Chandler Scholarship winner, Hispanic Scholar, Certified Nurse Assistant and in the top 2% of her class. She dedicates her time volunteering in our community and being a peer facilitator. She is competitive, enjoys sports and school spirit. She also loves to travel and learn from other cultures and her family and friends are very important to her. She will study neurosciences on a pre-med track at the University of Michigan. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Terrance Landon Sherman from Basha High School loves to fly. He's attended EVIT's aviation program and completed his private pilot license through Falcon Aviation. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Katelyn Miller from Basha High School loves to play volleyball, butterflies, and Dolly Parton. She is always ensuring her blended family has the best life possible. She also works with CUSD Community Education's Kids Express. Katelyn plans to attend Upper Iowa University where she will study nursing. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Kiley Feyen of Basha High School is graduating with a 4.3 GPA. She was involved in NHS, Link Crew, SNHS, KJC/KDC and volunteering within the community. She enjoys photography, traveling, listening to music, eating chocolate, laughing and spending time with family and friends. Kiley loves to dance and was a three-year captain on the Basha Pom team and will cherish the memories of Friday night lights, especially Basha football winning state during the 22-23 season. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Lourdes Smith from Basha High School is a smart young lady with a heart of gold. She is very focused on her future goals and her hobbies including video games, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Lourdes is loyal and trustworthy and always stands up for what's right and fair. Lourdes can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Madeline Avalos from Basha High School enjoys playing the saxophone, listening to vinyl records and gardening. She won third place at FFA Nationals in Indiana representing Nursery/Landscape. Madeline received the CUSD IMPACT Scholarship, Edna and Otto Neely Scholarship and Chandler-Gilbert Community College Presidential Scholarship. She will be pursuing an Associates degree in Nursing. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Cameron Bautista from Basha High School is an exceptional student and human being who is heavily involved in social activism. As part of his Basha Gives Back project, Cameron worked with nonprofits Living United for Change in Arizona, Activate48 and UnidosUS, as well as Lyft, to provide free and discounted rides to the polls for marginalized groups throughout Arizona. A third degree black belt in taekwondo, his experience as a junior instructor helped build his leadership skills and passion for teaching. As a junior, Cameron was chosen for the Town of Gilbert's Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee. During his senior year, Cameron was lead drum major for the Basha Band Regiment, President of the Asian Cultural Ethics Club, National Honor Society member and AMEA All-State Euphonium player. Cameron was named a National Merit Finalist and National Spanish Exam Gold Medalist, and earned a Seal of Spanish Biliteracy. He was also selected as one of only 20 students in Arizona to receive the prestigious Flinn Scholarship. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Isabella Allred from Basha High School is beautiful and kind. In her spare time she enjoys hanging with her friends, playing guitar and keyboard, and collecting gemstone jewelry. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Max Wullenweber played volleyball and was a part of the Bowling Club. Max gave back to the community by starting a campaign to clean up our oceans and bodies of water as part of his Basha Gives Back Project. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jazmin Brown played soccer and track & field. She earned Region Defensive Player of the Year, All-CUSD Girls Player of the Year, and Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Jazmin served as a member of National Honor Society (NHS), Science is Fun, Hispanic Culture and Badminton Club. Jazmin performed community service through NHS and brought awareness to dyslexia as part of her Basha Gives Back Project. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Michelle Banor hosted a walk for colon cancer and raised $3,000 dollars through T-shirt sales with all proceeds benefiting colon cancer research for her Basha Gives Back Project. She was awarded the National African American Scholar awards from College Board and was named Student of the Month. After graduation, Michelle plans to attend nursing school, working as a nurse to help fund medical school with hopes of becoming a gastroenterologist. Basha High Senior Spotlights

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Alyea Brown was an outstanding student who played girls basketball and was a Black Student Union (BSU), StuGo, and Bring Change to Mind Club member. Alyea volunteered regularly with teachers in classroom set up and take down and at BSU elementary events. She earned the 4.0 Award, a varsity letter and several scholarship opportunities like the ASU Provosts Scholarship, ASU Grant, UMass Boston Gift Aid, UMass Merit, UMass Federal Work Study, MU Diversity Award, and MU Grant. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Ty Robinson is an outstanding student, an incredible young man, and a stellar football player who became a captain during his senior season. Ty earned the Eddie Basha Award, an honor conferred annually to recognize athletes who conduct themselves with high integrity and character. He was also in wrestling, track & field and the Bowling Club. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Demarques Johnston is an outstanding young man. During his time at BHS he participated in Track & Field and ROTC. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Riley Mayes played soccer and was a Science is Fun, Girls XSTEM, and National Honor Society member while being academically driven and taking rigorous courses. Riley gave back to the community through Hugs for the Holidays and campus clubs. She was received the 4.0 Award all four years and was named an AP Scholar with Distinction and a National Merit Finalist. Riley earned the National Merit Scholarship from the University of Arizona, the Solara Ladies Club Scholarship, and the Dean's Exemplary Award Scholarship. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Isabel Madrid was an outstanding student, athlete and person. She ran in both cross country and track & field while being a member of student government, National Honors Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanca, Science is Fun and Turning Point USA. Isabel gave back to the community through volunteering at ICAN in Chandler with over 100 hours of community service. She was awarded the Superintendent's Outstanding Citizenship Award, the Eddie Basha Award, Arizona #1 All-Academic Team, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Spanish Exam Honorable Mention, and the Seal of Biliteracy. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Meghana Tripuraneni worked as an early learner instructor at a tutoring center, a volunteer at four organizations and a member of eight extra curriculars including Girls XSTEM, Science is Fun, and LEO Club. As part of her Basha Gives Back Project, she promoted awareness about holistic healthcare for hospitalized children and raised $3,000 towards UofA's Infectious Diseases Research and Training Fund. Meghana was a HOSA (formerly Health Occupations Students of America) Nutrition 2nd & 3rd place finisher in 2021 and 2022, a National Spanish 2 Examination Silver winner, and a National Spanish 3 Examination Bronze winner. She earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish. Meghana earned three scholarships including the National Merit Scholarship. She hopes to become a pediatric oncologist and attend medical school, so she will attend the University of Arizona Honors College to major in physiology and medical sciences and minor in psychology. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Ryan Stepien was a two-year captain of the varsity golf team and the Bowling Club president. As part of his Basha Gives Back Project, Ryan spread awareness about the emissions on global warming through social media. He was nominated by the East Valley Women's Club for Best Character. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jaydn Ocampo played tennis and badminton while participating in student government (student body vice president), Spanish Honors Society (president), National Honor Society, Student Athletes of Leadership, and AP Capstone Scholars Program. As part of her Basha Gives Back project, she created the Al and Laurie Ocampo Scholarship where she raised over $6,000 for seven teachers to pay off student debt. Her project received national attention on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Channel 12 twice, ABC 15, Uplifting Arizona, and international talk show La Voz De La Mañana. Jaydn earned the Flinn Semifinilist Scholarship and the Narducci Family Scholarship, and she plans to attend Barrett, The Honors College at ASU to study political science with hopes of becoming a congresswoman. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Ryan Wheaton participated in football and wrestling and was a member of the National Honors Society. Ryan served as captain during his senior season and was awarded the Eddie Basha Award, annually awarded to athletes who conduct themselves with high integrity and character. As part of his Basha Gives Back Project, Ryan collected and donated supplies to Phoenix Veterans Home and was recognized by the office of Governor Ducey for his generous contribution. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Kaylee Bargar participated in volleyball and badminton as well as being a member of student government, National Honor Society and Link Crew. As part of her Basha Gives Back Project, she started a community garden at an assisted care facility as well as doing other community service such as Smiles for Christmas/Hugs for Holidays and Rev'd up for Autism. Kaylee was awarded the Benevolence Award as well as the 4.0 Award and earned multiple scholarship opportunities. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Bradley Breisch participated in golf and soccer and was a member of National Honor Society and Ski Club. Bradley used his Basha Gives Back Project as a platform to inform the community about autism and how to interact with people with autism. He also gave back to the community through Hugs for Holiday as well as tutoring students to help better their academics. Bradley was an outstanding student earning the 4.0 Scholar Award all four years. He plans to attend Barrett, The Honors College at ASU on the ASU New American Scholarship and study computer sciences. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Basha High School has been lucky to have senior Anna Curry for the last four years because of her passion for others and for always excelling at anything she does. During her time at BHS, she has served as an American Sign Language club officer for four years, a National Honor Society member for two years, an Orienteering and Marksmanship Junior Reserves Officer in the Junior ROTC Training Corps for the last three years, state qualifier for HOSA (Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America) Biotechnology Club for the last two years, a Kitty Hawk Air Society deputy commander for two years, and as the Gender and Sexuality Expression vice president for a year. Throughout these pursuits and through her philanthropic endeavors, she dedicates herself to the school mission of benevolence, honor, and scholarship where she has volunteered over 110 hours during her time as a Bear. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Basha High senior Olivia Hajdys has a 4.875 GPA. She was Vice President of HOSA (Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America), president of Science is Fun, president of the National Spanish Honors society, and president of Si Se Puede. Olivia competed on both the spirit line and dance team at Basha High and was a state level award winner at HOSA competitions. She is fluent in three languages - English, Polish, and Spanish. Olivia is a humanitarian, serving those in need overseas providing medical assistance. She is also a Certified Basic Life Support instructor. Olivia will graduate summa cum laude. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Sreyha Nandakumar was one of 5 students to receive the Stamps full-ride scholarship to UofA. She plans to study molecular and cellular biology and public health on a pre-med track to become a neurologist. Sreyha was in National Honor Society and secretary for Si Se Puede her junior year, and in Spanish National Honor Society from freshman to junior years. She took 15 AP classes, has a 4.81 GPA, and received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sreyha has been on the Mayor's Youth Commission for 5 years, organizing and leading community events for teens such as mental health virtual presentations on depression and anxiety with Not My Kid. She was on the Chandler youth budgeting panel to allocate funds for different non-profits that serve Chandler youth. She did Parkinson's research with a professor at ASU and placed third at HISEF in Molecular and Cellular Biology. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Basha High senior Nate Woodbourne is an amazing young man. Besides being academically driven and taking rigorous courses in high school, he maintains a high GPA. SENIOR HIGHLIGHT: Jasmeen Sidhu plans to attend Arizona State University to major in Biological Sciences in the fall. She is a National Merit Finalist and has been awarded the Sun Devil State Award. She plans on going to medical school post undergrad with a desire to become a dermatologist. She has committed countless hours to her extracurricular activities, including being a member of the National Honor Society, Science is Fun, and Si Se Puede. In addition to being in clubs, Jasmeen has followed her passion of dance and has been a member of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts, the Kismet Junior Dance Company, and the Arizona Dance Studio.
