• Perry High School New Boys Tennis Coach for 2018-19 - John Waltz

    Perry High School would like to welcome John Waltz to our sports staff as the new varsity boy’s tennis coach. John is a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional with 30+ years of teaching and coaching experience. His expertise is the development of junior players from beginners to the pros and development of creative and impactful programs. He has coached top ranked national players, Davis Cup members, professional players, USTA national teams, national intersectional teams, and national city teams. He has recently moved to the Phoenix area from Kansas City, Mo., where he worked as Head Tennis Pro at Overland Park Racquet Club, one of the largest tennis clubs in the country.

    John is a collegiate tennis All American and is in the Athletic Hall of Fame for both his college, Washburn University (Topeka, KS), and high school, Topeka West H.S. He played #1 in tennis, started at guard in basketball, and started as wide receiver in football during his college and high school careers. He has also coached boys’ and girls’ AAU basketball teams and was a high school and college basketball refereeJohn has been married for 43 years to Marlene, a retired sales executive at Sprint. They have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Their son, Bret, a doctor of physical therapy, currently tours the ATP circuit with the top American tennis players. In addition, he consults with the ASU men’s tennis team. Their daughter, Blair, played basketball for the University of Kansas and was a pro beach volleyball player.     Perry High School New Boys Volleyball Coach for 2018-19 - Ryan Tolman

    After coaching the final three weeks of the 2018 boys season as the interim head coach, and finishing with a trip to the semi-finals, Ryan Tolman will make 2019 his first full season as the new Pumas Boys Volleyball coach. It will be his 14th season as a head volleyball coach in Arizona, having coached 13 seasons previously at Desert Vista high School, where his teams never missed the playoffs, won a state championship in 2007 and made five appearances in the state semi-finals. He was named the Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 and again in 2013 and has won well over 300 matches as a coach. He also teaches Spanish at Perry and coaches the Girls Volleyball Junior Varsity team as well.

    Coach Tolman grew up in Arizona and earned a Bachelor’s of Art in Education degree from Arizona State University and a Master’s of Educational Leadership Degree from NAU.     Perry High School New Boys Golf Coach for 2018-19 - Mark Nold

     

    Coach Mark Nold returns as the Head Boys Golf Coach at Perry High School where he coached the inaugural team in 2007. Coach Nold played high school golf at Greenway High School, and his previous golf coaching experience includes the Assistant Boys Golf Coach at Apollo High School from 2003-2006, Head Boys Golf Coach at Perry High School in 2007, and Assistant Boys Golf Coach at Chandler High School from 2014-2017.

    Coach Nold has a B.A. in Political Science from Arizona State University and a Masters both in Counseling and Educational Leadership from Ottawa University. He is a Guidance Counselor at Perry High School and will also be the Head Freshman Boys Basketball Coach.     Perry High School New Boys Soccer Coach for 2018-19 - Jason Berg
     

    2018-19 will Coach Jason Berg’s first season as the head coach for the Pumas, but will be his 13th overall coaching club, high school, and community college.  Coach Berg came from Dobson High School where he was the head coach for the last eight years.  During that time, he received coach of year award for his region and city.  Prior to that, he was an assistant at Maricopa High School and Gateway Community College. He currently coaches club at Arizona Arsenal. Coach Berg is an Arizona local, playing soccer with Tempe Pros and Cisco growing up, then attending South Mountain Community College as their starting goalkeeper.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from ASU and his Post Baccalaureate in teaching from Rio Salado.

    Coach Berg is also excited to be teaching Special Education at Perry and have the opportunity to interact with his players during the 3rd hour Soccer Locker class.  This will be his 9th year teaching.  He has two daughters, 4 and 8 years of age, both playing soccer.  His fiancé is also a teacher and a soccer coach. They are looking forward to getting married this fall.  Coach Berg can be reached at coachjasonberg@gmail.com.

    Perry High School New Girls Golf Coach for 2018-19 - Scott Uyeshiro

    Mr. Scott Uyeshiro will be making his Girls Golf coaching debut in the FALL of 2018.  Coach U has coached various sports teams for the Pumas since the school opened in the Fall of 2005. Coach U is no stranger to coaching golf. He’s been the Boys Assistant Golf Coach for the past two years and has helped guide the boys golf team to two top ten finishes in state.  Coach Uyeshiro has a B.A. in Behavioral Science, a Teaching Certificate from Concordia University-Portland, and a Masters in Counseling from City University in Seattle. He is a Guidance Counselor at Perry High School. He has been married to his wife Kristi for 24 years and has three daughters (Delaney, Shaylynn, and Malia).  His daughter Delaney will be attending Idaho State in the fall and will be playing college soccer for the Bengals.
