About
Smith...
My name is Anne Smith, and I am one of the counselors here at Andersen. I have been at AJHS for over 10 years and have enjoyed meeting siblings and family members that come through our school year after year. Each year brings new challenges and victories, and I feel it is a privilege to work with our young people in helping them "turn on the light." Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated for Ottawa University with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, and hold a teaching certificate in the area of Guidance Counseling. I have also completed my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling and am a licensed substance abuse counselor. I have been in the position of guidance counselor here at Andersen for the past year 8 years. Previously, I held a position as a Special Education teacher (in the area of Science) at the high school level and worked with at-risk students before that. When I began my career, I worked in the mental health field for eight years, focusing on the adolescent population.
My Educational Philosophy
Here at Andersen, we believe that empowering our students to achieve their academic and future career goals is a top priority. To accomplish this, we work together with the student, parent, teachers / school staff and community. We also work to support our students socially and emotionally by going into the classroom to provide lessons on a variety of subjects. In addition to our classroom visits, I also love working with the student in small groups and one-on-one.
