    Physical Education

The P.E. curriculum here at ACP will offer a wide variety of physical activities, as well as many learning activities and opportunities.  The class will incorporate a variety of team sports with fitness activities.  The students will also have several “Journal Days” each quarter.  On these journal days, the class will focus on a specific health or fitness topic.  The students will complete a variety of written assignments that will be kept in a personal folder.  The students will also complete one written essay about a health topic each quarter.

One of my goals as a PE teacher is to make physical education an enjoyable and positive experience for all students.  I want the students to feel comfortable in class, and develop a positive attitude toward physical activity.  I have four major goals for my students:

    1. Develop and improve physical fitness.
    2. Develop fundamental movement skills and basic sports skills (Focus on lifetime activities)
    3. Develop desirable social skills (sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, etc.)
    4. Develop an understanding of the importance of physical activity now and throughout their lives.

In order to guarantee a safe and productive climate that each student deserves, all students will be expected to follow these simple rules:

    1. Be in the locker room when the bell rings.
    2. Listen and pay attention when the teacher is speaking.
    3. Follow directions.
    4. Treat others with respect.
    5. Use equipment appropriately.
    6. Actively participate in all activities (Do your personal best)

     Grading:

    1.  Daily Points  (15)
    • Dressing out in correct PE uniform   5 points
    • Participation / Effort   5 points
    • Behavior / Attitude   5 points
    2.  Journal Day Assignments

    3.  PE Essays

    4.  Final Exam (20% of Semester Grade)

    Absences:

Students that need to be excused from physical activity due to injury or illness must have a note from a parent, and will be required to do make-up work if they wish to make up the missed points.  If more than three class days are needed for recovery, a doctor’s note is required.

Every time class is missed, no matter what the reason, students are responsible for make-up work if they wish to receive their daily points.  The make-up work must be completed by the end of the quarter in order to receive the missed daily points.  To earn the 15 daily points back into their grade, 60 minutes of exercise must be completed.  This may be any type of physical activity.  A "PE Make-Up" form should be completed and returned to verify the 60 minutes of activity.  The forms are available from Coach Huffman or click on the link below.
