Our first grade team honored Black History Month with inspirational bulletin boards. One goal of the bulletin boards was to highlight the courageous people in our history who made a real impact for change for all children, not just children of color. Another goal was to honor our Black students and provide an opportunity for not only them, but for all of our school to learn about important Black historical figures. With this important instruction, the students can appreciate the contributions and achievements of many people and how they paved a way for our future. First grade teachers reported that they wanted students to come away from this month's discussions and activities knowing that they are capable of making change in the world just like the legends who are being honored this month.
