In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, CTA Goodman was honored by a performance from Tony Duncan, 5-time World Champion Hoop Dancer. CTA Goodman parent Laura Coochwytewa coordinated this amazing performance. The Hoop Dance originates from the Taos Pueblo of New Mexico as a way of healing. The modern form of hoop dancing has since become an intertribal dance and is now shared at social gatherings and pow wows alike. The dancer uses hoops to create images and shapes that represent the many beautiful creations on Mother Earth. The hoop dance teaches us that we must respect and honor all life, as we are all connected in a great circle of life. Tony Duncan was taught to hoop dance at the age of five. This tradition was passed down from his father Ken Duncan, Sr., and now also on to Tony's 6-year-old son, Naiche, who has started his journey into the world of hoop dancing. The circle, stories, and traditions continue.
