Megan Driving Hawk of Perry High School is the 2023 Arizona State Art Educator of the Year! Megan wears many hats at Perry High (Traditional Photography Program, Visual Arts Level Lead, Fine Arts Department, Indigenous Student Advisor, Indigenous Education Program, Teacher Equity Leader, Equity & Inclusion) and we are so honored to have her on team CUSD! This prestigious accolade, from the Arizona Art Education Association, is testament to Megan's dedication to quality art education in the state.

GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Carter Hayes of Perry High School loves trucks, dirt bike riding, and mechanics. Carter has a wonderful mind! He is a thinker. He is an incredible problem solver, a dependable hard worker, and pushes himself to be his best. He is always working on something with his hands and keeps himself busy solving real-world problems. Give him something with a motor, and he will spend hours bringing it to tip-top shape. Carter is the perfect balance of smarts, physical skills, and thrill seeking with a soft heart for his family and friends. Carter will be joining the United States Air Force. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Gabriel Villa of Perry High School is a great student-athlete. Gabe is carefree, lighthearted, funny, and caring. He is looking forward to furthering his education building upon the great learning experiences he had at Weinberg Gifted Academy, Payne Junior High School, and Perry. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Aaron Clark of Perry High School loves theatre and has been involved with Perry Theatre Company since sophomore year. He attended the Arizona Thespian Festival and was awarded the Theatre Educators Scholarship. Aaron really enjoyed taking ASL class and has always enjoyed working with special education students as a "Stormin' Buddy" at Santan Junior High and PHS peer facilitator. Aaron is a one-of-a-kind, funny, empathetic, caring student. His best memory is performing in "The Lightning Thief." Aaron has worked hard all four years to maintain good grades while continuing to perform in his local youth theater. He has recently been spending his weekends working with an agency as Spider-Man, a Power Ranger, or Darth Vader in events and parties across the Valley. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Tarah Tisdale of Perry High School is a member of Puma Pals and a peer facilitator for Ms. Lee. Her passion is caring for special needs children. She is also a student worker at Charlotte Patterson Elementary School with CUSD Community Education's Kids Express. Tarah has persevered in overcoming difficulties and looks forward to her future. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Alec Zoglman of Perry High School is an innovative, hardworking, fearless, and intuitive young man. He is very mechanically inclined and a gifted welder. CUSD has provided him the flexibility and encouragement to follow his dreams. Alec balanced the EVIT welding program, PHS classes, and Chandler Online Academy classes. He will continue his welding career after high school. Not only has he also secured a full-time welding job, he has also started his own mobile welding business, AJ's Welding and Mechanical. His company has a very special name and meaning. His grandpa started the company right after Alec was born in his name. He was such a proud grandpa! Unfortunately, he passed away right after Alec's 1st birthday from pancreatic cancer. His family saved all of the original business paperwork and now Alec is making it his own and continuing the legacy! Perry High Graduate Spotlights

GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Amy Wahlin of Perry High School loves everything outdoors. She learned how to snowboard this past winter and can't wait to move to Utah where she will only be 15 minutes away from the mountains. Amy is a great friend, daughter and sister to her three brothers. She is a excellent student and loves to listen to all kinds of music. Amy excels at whatever she participates in. She played volleyball for eight years and lettered in sand/indoor volleyball. She will graduate with a 3.9 GPA. She will be attending Brigham Young University to study data analytics. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Avery Jones of Perry High School is energetic, hardworking, compassionate, and she is always smiling. Avery will study business finance and pre-law at Montana State University. She is a varsity tennis athlete who was named co-MVP after her sophomore year. Additionally, she made it to the girl's tennis state quarterfinals two years in a row. She is involved in Link Crew, National Honor Society, Tennis Club, and countless community service projects. She still found time to earn academic honors all four years at Perry, volunteer at local animal shelters, and work at Dutch Bros. Avery has a smile that lights up a room. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Kian Lamoreaux of Perry High School has enjoyed his time at Perry! He made lasting and positive friendships with a diverse and talented group of students. Kian was also a diligent student and worked hard as a member of The National Honor Society to maintain a high GPA and serve his community. Kian will be leaving this summer to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cote d'Ivoire, Africa. He is excited for the opportunity to experience a new country and culture, and he looks forward to serving and getting to know the people of Cote d'Ivoire. When Kian returns from his mission, he plans on studying music production and animation at either Brigham Young University or Arizona State University. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Hannah Caffall from Perry High School coached gymnastics for the last 2 years, participated in karate as an advanced student, and danced on Perry's team. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Emma James of Perry High School loves reading, working out, and anything outdoors. She maintains a high GPA along with playing badminton and volleyball, volunteering at various organizations and enjoying an active social life. Emma belongs to Perry's STEM program. She is the Vice President of National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. Emma is a finalist for the AIA scholar athlete scholarship and is a CEF scholarship recipient. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Bethany Johnson of Perry High School loves culinary arts! She's also a member of women's choir, in several different plays, and very active on the social scene. Bethany is bubbly and happy and excited for the future! She will attend BYU Idaho to study Consumer Sciences with a culinary emphasis. She is leaving high school with multiple scholarships and accolades for her work in the Culinary Arts Program. She adores her culinary teacher Mrs. Angela Stutz and has enjoyed working with her! She could easily have everything handed to her as many of her peers, however she has completed her senior year as a full time student, completed her clinical studies and maintained a 30-hour work week all year long! When she puts her mind to something, she gets it done. Her teachers always had wonderful things to say about her. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Casey Hunt from Perry High School was a 4-year member of the varsity soccer team and played for Arizona Arsenal Soccer Club. She was an active member of the Spanish National Honor Society, Leo Club, Link Crew and Kids for Wish Kids. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Gabriella Vega from Perry High School is an incredibly strong young woman who overcame many medical challenges in her life. She uses her experiences to encourage others. She is an amazing and supportive big sister to four siblings, all in the CUSD. Gabriella took part in raising funds for Make-A-Wish with the club �Kids for Wish Kids' her freshman year. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Tate Alger from Perry High School plays basketball and jumps in track. He has played on several club teams, but ends high school with Feed Your Game (FYG). GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Avery Burks from Perry High School is a student aide for the athletic department. She volunteered at various events like the AIA State Track Meet, the Ostrich Festival, and Chandler Rotary, and she tutored at Carlson Elementary School. Avery plays club volleyball and Perry varsity indoor and beach volleyball. She was named CUSD Player of the Year in both sports and All-6A Conference 1st Team in indoor. She is her team's representative to the Perry Puma Athletic Council and is a member the Link Crew. She holds a part-time job at Jeremiah's Italian Ice and maintains a 4.0 GPA. Perry High School senior Sumaya Quitugua (Acoma Pueblo) is an example of Indigenous Excellence in Chandler Unified School District. The Phoenix Indian Center named Quitugua one of two High School Students of the Year for 2022. She will be honored during a dinner ceremony on Wednesday, November 30 at the Heard Museum in Phoenix. Perry High School photography teacher and Indigenous Student Advisor Megan Drivinghawk nominated Quitugua for the award. Read more about her here.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Ashley Day is senior class president. Although this is her first year on StuGo, Ashley has been on Perry Dance for all four years, National Honor Society for Dance three years, Competitive Dance Company, National Honor Society and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica for two years. She is also a member of Operation Smiles. Ashley will attend Northern Arizona University on the Lumberjack Scholarship to study business administration with an emphasis in small business development and minoring in Spanish for business. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Titus "Ty" Charles was a National Honors Society and African American Culture Club member. He was also a 4-year varsity soccer player (captain of the team junior and senior year). Ty was a recipient of the Perry's Academic Award of Excellence, College Board National African American Scholar, All-Region First Team and All-CUSD Boys Soccer Team. Ty will take a post-grad year and then move to Massachusetts to attend Northfield Mount Hermom, a college preparatory known for soccer to showcase his abilities to colleges and be recruited to play college after one year. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Clare Hale has been actively involved in band, Sociedad Honoraria Hisp&?aacute;nica, and choir for all four years. Clare is also involved in marching band, National Honor Society, Tri-Music Honor Society, Link Crew and Operation Smile. She is a National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, a recipient of the Girl Scout Silver Award, and a volunteer at CTA Liberty. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Nathan Lam is the Perry High student body president. He has been a member of Student Council and Operation Smile (treasurer), Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, National Honor Society (NHS Historian), Link Crew (Super Q Officer), Leo Club and Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. Nathan is a recipient of several awards including 1st Place American Protégé International Piano & Strings competition - Piano Duet, Governor's Future Innovator of the Year Award, National Merit Finalist, and John Herdt Memorial Scholarship. In addition, Nathan has put in over 150 hours of underprivileged education service. In fall 2022, Nathan will be attending Stanford University to study biology pre-med. Perry High Senior Spotlights

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Brenna Rodriguez was a varsity track & field student-athlete and Puma Pac president. Brenna co-founded CUSD's Student Organization of Leaders four year ago and was recently president. She was also an AIA Student Leadership Advisory Committee and National Honor Society member. Brenna's awards include: the Spanish Award of Excellence, Academic Award of Excellence four times, Multi-Sport Scholar Athlete Award and the United States Marines Corps Distinguished Scholar Award. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Diego Gallo has been actively involved in PerryLive365, all 4 years plus TV and Film Production, National Honor Society, Link Crew, and Gaming Club. Diego was named state champion for SkillsUSA and received a Gold Medal in TV and Video Production. He lettered in Academic Excellence and was a recipient of the World History Award of Excellence. Diego's volunteer work included The Ostrich Festival, . Jeff Wood Group-Family Fun Nights, PerryLive365 and Feed My Starving Children. Diego will attend the University of Arizona, where he was a recipient of The Wildcat Excellence Award, to study game design & development and music while obtaining a Games and Simulation Certificate. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jaelyn Pallas was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes president and was actively involved with the club all four years. She was also the women's varsity soccer captain and played at Perry for two years. She received many awards including the Academic Award of Excellence four times, All-CUSD First Team twice and Player of the Year, All-Premier Region First Team in soccer twice, All-Conference First Team-Soccer, and All-Premier Region Offensive Player of the Year. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jaymie Wollert was in sculpture for four years. Jaymie, with a group of four classmates, won Best of Show Award at the Scottsdale Fashion Square Public Art Show for their cactus collective piece. Jaymie also won 3D Best of Show for her Scraffito Plate titled "About You." She will attend Chandler-Gilbert Community College where she will continue to study ceramic art and life drawing. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Mason Mesias was on the Football and Track & Field teams for four years. He was a National Honors Society Treasurer and had over 128 hours of volunteer work with organizations such as the YMCA, Live Love, i9 Sports, Chicanos Por La Causa, AZcend, Perry sports and local elementary schools. Mason held the record for the past three years for Perry's Discus, he was 6A All-American Football Team 2020-21 and 2021-2022, received the Dr. Voie Stuart Chase Coy Scholar Athlete/Activity Award and Perry's Academic Excellence Award four times. Mason was a recipient of the ASU President Award, and will attend Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University in the fall where he will major in mechanical engineering. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Sammy Cristerna was actively involved in Student Council and Puma Pals all four years. He has also been a member of Pumas 4 Pumas, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hisp�nica, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honors Society and DECA (formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America). Sammy is a recipient of ASU Leadership Scholarship, ASU New Generation Service Corps and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards. Sammy will attend Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University to study political science on the pre-law track. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Maezy Biemond was actively involved in Orchestra and Art Club for four years. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew, Photo Club and Asian Culture Club. Maezy is a volunteer at Paz de Cristo where she helps feed the homeless. She has been a recipient of the Academic Award of Excellence for all four years at Perry. Maezy was awarded the Fine Arts Proficiency Seal and the Symphonic and Chamber Music Achievement Award. Maezy will study Astronomy and Photography at the Northern Arizona University Honors College, where she was awarded the Lumberjack Scholarship. In her free time, Maezy loves collecting music records and plants. She also loves to paint and watch all of the classic John Hughes movies. Perry High Senior Spotlights

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jordan Suan played volleyball, beach volleyball and was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society and Link Crew. Jordan received the Academic Excellence Award four times. She earned several awards including Beach Volleyball/Volleyball Scholar Athlete, Volleyball 6A Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and Volleyball Premier Region Defensive Player of the Year. Jordan also received the Chandler Education Foundation Impact Scholarship. Her volunteer work included tutoring at Carlson Elementary, Chandler Wolf Howl Boys Volleyball Invitational, Chandler Rotary, Girls that Code and Modern Care Assisted Living Home. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Gehrig Tolman has played volleyball all four years. His recognitions include 6A All-Conference First Team, CUSD Player of the Year, Premier Region Player of the Year and the 6A Boys Volleyball State Championship. Gehrig will be attending Concordia University, Irvine where he will play volleyball. Gehrig's interest and hobbies including taking naps, hanging out with his friends, and winning. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jayden Montano has been on badminton all four years, including two with a state championship ring. Jayden was also involved with softball, track & field pole vault, Key Club, Puma Pals and Link Crew. She is a National Hispanic Merit Scholar and AP Scholar with honor. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Taylor Lovell has been on Perry's Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Track all four years. She has also been on Perry's Girls Varsity Soccer for three years. Taylor is Perry's record holder for 4x800, 800, 1600, and 3200. She won the Division I state championship for the 3200 (10:53.66) and the 4X800 (9:27.98) her senior year. She was named All-CUSD, All-Region All-State Cross Country and Track three times and Second Team All-Region for Girls Varsity Soccer in 2020-2021. Taylor will be attending BYU to run Cross Country and Track where she will major in health sciences or dental hygiene. Perry High Senior Spotlights

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Joshua Jeong is involved clubs on campus such as Leo Club, UNICEF and Varsity Swim. Joshu'sa off-campus extracurricular activities include volunteering, teaching computer science and language learning. He will be attending ASU in the fall where he will major in software engineering.
