    Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between AP and Dual Enrollment?

Both options offer students the chance to receive college credit while attending high school. They are separate programs, both with advantages for your students.

AP credit will transfer to many universities nationwide. Students must pass with a qualifying grade in order for the credit to be accepted.  Policies vary by institution. For general information about credit transfer as it relates to the AP program, please visit http://apscore.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/search-credit-policies.  For information relating to a specific college or university, it is recommended that you visit the institution’s website to research their individual credit transfer policies.

Dual Enrollment credit will transfer to any in-state university if the student passes the class with a C or better.  Policies vary by institution.  It is recommended that you visit the institution's website to research their individual credit transfer policies.

Can my student take an AP Exam for a class that he/she didn’t take?

We discourage students from self-studying for most AP tests. In order to be as successful as possible, it is strongly recommended that the student does the course work. Students choosing to test as self-study must receive approval from administration prior to ordering their exam.

    Is there financial aid available?

Financial aid is available to those who qualify based on federal guidelines.

To qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program, please apply here.  If you are approved for FRL, please bring your FRL Approval Letter to Office C223 to obtain a fee waiver.  You will need to reapply every year to be on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program to be eligible for fee waivers.

Will there be a physical timer for all students to see or does everyone need to buy a watch?

We place large clocks in view of all students, and our proctors will be giving verbal time clues during testing. Countdown timers are not allowed.

Will my student's absence from class be excused while they are testing?

Students will be excused for morning classes, if they are taking a morning exam, and likewise for the afternoon, if taking afternoon exams.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS STILL CHECK IN WITH THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE BEFORE AND AFTER EXAMS.  They will only be excused while testing, not for the entire day.

Why can’t students park at the offsite testing location?

This is a safety issue.  We are still responsible for students while they are offsite testing.  We do not want students leaving the testing site and not returning to school. Students are able to walk to and from school as the location is just across the street from Hamilton.  Security will be at the crosswalk for the students. If students drive their own car, they must park at school then walk to the testing location.  If needed, parents may drop off and pick up at the school, not the testing site.

Can my students have a snack or drink during testing?

All testing times give a break in which students are able to leave the testing room and eat a quick snack. However, they are not allowed to be on their phones or review any study guides during breaks.

What if my student is late for the exam?  Can they still test?

Exams will start on time.  There is no entry allowed once the exam has started.  It is imperative that students arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled exam time to check in and be ready to begin at the College Board's designated start time.

What should my student bring to the exam?

Students should only bring a photo ID, pencils, pens and an approved calculator (if the exam allows) into the testing room.  Nothing else will be allowed in the testing room.  Snacks and drinks may be left outside the testing room to be accessed during the break.  Phones, technology, and/or notes of any kind are not allowed to be used during any testing times, including breaks.
