    Course Overview 

    Course Description 

    ENG300 English 11 (Full Year, 1 Credit): English 11 offers an integrated program of writing and literature, focusing on the study of American Literature and persuasive/argumentative essay. Students will also write a compare and contrast composition, research paper, narrative, and literary analysis. AP and dual enrollment courses are college-level, and some reading selections may contain mature subject matter. 

    Advanced Placement (AP) / International Baccalaureate (IB) / Dual Enrollment This not an AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment course. An additional syllabus is not required for this course.

    Course Learning Outcomes 

    After this course, students will be able to: 

    -Write well-organized essays by analyzing content, including strong textual evidence, developing ideas, editing, and revising 

    -Comprehend various literature studies focusing on American writers including readings such as Into the Wild and A Raisin in the Sun 

    -Define new vocabulary learned throughout literature studies 

    -Analyze ideas presented through poetry and nonfiction passages

    This course is taught in person at Chandler High School. Students will have access to the curriculum and instruction in the classroom. Google Classroom is the primary location for students to access material when absent from classes taught in person. Buzz is the primary location for COA students to access materials at all times.

    Student Conduct, Success, and Responsibilities 

    Student Handbook 

    Students must follow the policies and procedures established in the Student Handbook. Copies of the handbook can be found at https://www.cusd80.com/handbooks. Printed copies will be provided upon request.

    - Participate in lessons to the best of your ability and turn in work by due dates.

     - Ask questions for further clarification if needed/come in for tutoring.

    Student Responsibilities

    - Show RESPECT at all times towards your peers and teacher. 

    - Always put air pods and phones away when in class. 

    - Stay in/near your seat until I dismiss the class. You MAY NOT "hang out" by the door and wait for the bell to ring. 

    - Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated. The student will earn a zero on the assignment. 

    Late work 

    Homework is due at the beginning of class unless otherwise stated. All late homework will be accepted for half credit. 

    Assessments and Assignments 

    Students will complete assessments during each unit of study to assess their understanding. Students will complete the CUSD Common Final at the end of the first and second semesters. The Common Final will count for 20% of the student's final semester grade in grades 9-12 and 

    10% in grades 7-8 (some exceptions may apply at the Junior High level). Common finals will be in ELA, Math, Science, Social Science, and World Language. 

    Final exams will be given during the CUSD Jr High/High School Early Dismissal days in December and May, as identified on the District Calendar

    If students are requested to participate in a survey, the survey questions will be provided to parents/guardians seven days before student contact.

    B 80% - 89% 

    C 70% - 79% 

    D 60% - 69% 

    F <60% 

    Quarter grades 

    Assignments are given a point value, and a student’s grade in the class is determined by how many points he/she has versus the total points available in the class. Please check Infinite Campus to view your grade. 

    A – 90-100% B – 80-89% C – 70-79% D – 60-69% F – Below 60% 

    Semester grades 

    The following formula is used to calculate semester grades 

    40/40/20: Each quarter accounts for 40% of the semester grade and the final exam accounts for the remaining 20%.
