• Election info

     

    It’s time for Student Council elections. If you’re interested in getting more involved at San Marcos and learning great leadership skills, running for a Student Council office is a fantastic opportunity. Read through the following information to find out the responsibilities, requirements, and important dates.

     

    Criteria for being a Student Council officer:

    1. Demonstrate leadership ability
    2. Respect peers and adults
      1. Display Character Counts
      2. Maintain acceptable classroom and campus behavior
      3. Receive no detentions
    3. Demonstrate a willingness to assume responsibilities
    4. Maintain good grades (C average or better on all report cards with no Ds or Fs)
    5. Be willing and able to attend Student Council meetings every other Wednesday after school from 2:45-3:30 in room 11.

     Consequences of NOT meeting criteria:

    1. Receiving one detention will result in member giving up Student Council position for four weeks.
    2. Receiving a second detention will result in member being dismissed from Student Council.
    3. Receiving a D or F on a report card will result in member giving up Student Council position until the next grading period.
    4. Receiving a D or F on a second report card will result in member being dismissed from Student Council.

     Important campaign information:

    1. Must return all required paperwork including parent permission slip, student petition paragraph and signatures, and teacher recommendation by the due dates listed on the election flyer.
    2. Students must prepare campaign materials and speech by Monday, August 14th.
    3. Students can begin hanging posters on August 12th after being reviewed by Mrs. Vitton and Ms. O’Malley.
    4. Students will prepare a 1 – 2 minute speech to be recorded and then shown in classrooms on August 18th. Students will NOT use other candidates’ names in speeches or campaign materials.
    5. Students will vote after speeches on August 18th.

    Important Dates:

      • August 15, 16, 17 - Film speeches in newsroom (schedule to come soon!)
      • Officer election info
      • August 18th – Students will watch video of speeches and vote in classroom at 1:45.
