Brief Outline of the Year’s Schedule

1st Quarter:  Students will research science literature and present their findings to the class.  We will explore various science topics in contemporary society.  Students will decide on individual project topics by the end of the quarter.

2nd Quarter:  Students will finalize procedures and conduct experiments.  Experiments may be conducted on or off-site.  Students will be responsible for periodic updates and they will analyze data as it is developed.  Findings will be presented to class.

3rd Quarter:  Projects will be finalized, including conclusions.  Students will prepare and rehearse presentations for judging at Hamilton Invitational Science and Research Fair (February) and Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (March.)

4th Quarter:  Students will develop future research proposals.  If invited, they may continue competing at International Science and Engineering Fair.

Grading:  Students will be working independently for much of this class; therefore, points will be awarded based on individual progress.  Points will also be awarded based on class presentations.  Some assignments and group projects will be included in grades in order to help students develop problem-solving, data analysis and presentation skills.
