Chamber Orchestra, year-long class
Symphonic Orchestra, year-long class
Concert Orchestra, year-long class
Each group plays quality music, selected for their level of virtuosity. No matter which performance level a student exhibits, they will enjoy the pursuit of musical opportunities as well as the friendly camaraderie and learning environment available in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere. Students will develop knowledge, attitudes, understanding and habits that make music a source of enduring friendships, joy, and lifelong learning.
PHS orchestras provide concert, service, and out of state traveling experiences that give students performance experience, understanding of the cultural and historic value of great music, and the ability to shape their own interaction with the arts over a lifetime.
The orchestras frequently perform both inside and outside of school. Each time they play, they become better musicians. Once you register for a Perry orchestra class, you become part of the Perry High School Orchestra family.
Concert Orchestra ORC100
The Concert Orchestra is a intermediate group consisting of players with moderate playing experience on their instruments. This class plays music that allows for their creativity to show through as they work on their left hand and bow arm techniques. Our goal is to grow in ability and become more familiar with our instruments while playing in a string orchestra atmosphere. Almost all of the players from this orchestra progress to a higher level by the end of the year. Students do not need to audition to register for Concert Orchestra.
Symphonic Orchestra ORC110
The Symphonic Orchestra performs at an intermediate-advanced level and are constantly challenged to a higher playing ability standard. Here we refine the techniques we learned in Concert Orchestra and expand our skills to include advanced playing techniques. The Symphonic players have the opportunity to perform a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Our goal is to gain more left hand and bow arm facility while being challenged by more advanced orchestral literature. Students audition (two octave scales and a piece of your choice) to be placed in the Symphonic Orchestra.
Chamber Orchestra ORC120
The Chamber Orchestra is a highly advanced ensemble consisting of players who play at or near the college level on their instruments. Here we refine the techniques learned in the Symphonic Orchestra to the highest quality. Many of the Perry Chamber Orchestra students earn a place in the Regional and All-State Orchestras. Students in this group range from freshman to seniors and have a high level of understanding on their instruments. Most Chamber students take private lessons outside of school and many play in local youth orchestra groups. Our goal is to polish student instrumental techniques and abilities and to delve deeper into the musical, historical and theoretical complexities of orchestral literature. Students need to audition (three octave scales and a piece) to be placed in the Chamber Orchestra.
Registering for Orchestra
Incoming freshmen can register for Concert Orchestra with no audition. To be considered for one of the more advanced classes, contact Dr. Dopp via email to set up an audition date and time in April.
