A Message from Our Attendance Desk
-
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Attendance is extremely important at CTA Independence! Students need to arrive on time and attend school regularly. School attendance is not only a good habit, Arizona State Law requires it. Tardies: Students who are chronically tardy will be contacted by letter, by our attendance clerk, and by the administration. Arriving for school late is not beneficial for students or their teachers.
Absenteeism: Parents will be contacted by letter at day 10 and day 18 of student absence.
Students with five (5) unexcused absences or any type of absences totaling 10% of the school year (18 days) may result in a citation from our CUSD Truancy Officer. Excused, unexcused, vacations, etc. all count for the 18-day count.
At 18 days, the administration will contact parents to set up a meeting to create an improvement plan and the district truancy officer will be contacted.
District policy is to withdraw a student after ten (10) consecutive days of absence.
We are legally obligated to monitor student attendance and to report cases we feel qualify as educational neglect whether the absences are excused or unexcused. Per Arizona State Law, we work closely with the District Truant Officer to ensure that our children are attending school every day and arriving on time. If you foresee an absence coming up, please be sure to not only inform your teacher but also inform us in the office as soon as possible. You can do this by leaving a message on the Attendance Line, (480) 224-2703. If you do not contact the school about your student's absence, it will be counted as unexcused. When you need to pick your student up early for an appointment or illness (or any other reason) we ask that you inform your teacher with a phone call or email, and have your I.D. ready when you come into the office.
Keep your kids in school!
Sincerely,
Lori Walter, Principal
