What is the school Mascot? CTA Goodman Gators
When is break? CUSD students have three breaks throughout the school year fall, winter and spring. Please see district calendar link below.

When does school begin? School at CTA Goodman begins at 8:10 a.m. The first bell rings at 8:00 a.m. indicating that it is time for classes to line up. Teacher will meet their class at the designated spot and escort them to the classroom.
When is a student late? Gates close at 8:10 a.m. Students that arrive after the second bell will need to enter school through the front office and receive a tardy pass.
Can students walk to school? Only students that live in the Goodman boundary can walk to school. Kindergarten and 1st grade students are not permitted to walk home unless accompanied by an older sibling, or an adult. Students in 2nd – 6th grades are permitted to walk home unaccompanied.
If a student walks to school, do they need a tag for their backpack? All student walkers require a walker tag in order to get out of the appropriate gate. Only those students that live in the designated school boundary will be issued a walker tag. Tags are color-coded and will have the name of the specific gate the student will use throughout the year.
Can students ride a bike to school? 2nd – 6th grade students are permitted to ride a bicycle to and from school. If riding a bike, students are asked to walk their bikes while on campus and while using the designated crosswalks. All bikes need to be secured in the bike rack on the east side of campus.
What time is early release? Early release is at 11:10 a.m. Early release dates are conference time and the last day of school.
Can parents volunteer in the classroom? Yes, parents are most welcome to volunteer in the classroom. All volunteers are required to fill out a Tier I/II volunteer from. Please arrange your volunteer dates and times with the classroom teacher. All volunteers must sign in and sign out in the front office. The office will ask for car key or license to issue a volunteer fob and badge.
Where do students line up in the morning? Teacher’s names will be written on the sidewalk by all playgrounds for the first week of school. Remember that if you have any questions, look for the adults in the vests and they can help students find their classroom line.
When can students be on campus? Students may arrive to campus starting at 7:45 a.m. Playground supervision starts at that time. Students should not be left at any gates until that time.
When does school dismiss? School dismisses at 2:40 p.m. All students K-6 will be released at that time. Parents should pick up students at the dismissal time. All students need to be picked up by 2:55 p.m.
Can students stay at school longer? If you are participating in after school clubs or attending Kids Express after school care.
What do students need to bring to school on the first day? Bring a backpack or book bag, water bottle and a lunch if you are not purchasing lunch from the CUSD café. Remember to label your backpack and lunch box with your student’s name.
Will there be nightly homework? Yes, each student will be assigned homework to practice the concepts taught in class. The Elementary Handbook can be found by viewing the attached link: Elementary Handbook

Will there be playground equipment to use? Playground equipment is not available before school for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Playground equipment is available for 3rd through 6th grade before school. Playground equipment is available for all grades at lunch recess.
Will there be Running Club? Yes! We will have Running Club at CTA Goodman. Our Running Club sponsors will send out information.
Do students participate in art? All CUSD schools have volunteers come into the classrooms to teach Art Masterpiece. This is a program where students learn about artists and then use their techniques on creations of their own.
Do students get recess? All students are able to participate in before school recess that starts at 7:45 a.m. Grades K thru 5 take an additional recess beyond lunch recess.
When do students eat lunch? Students will have a daily 20-minute lunch period. Classroom teachers will communicate schedules to parents at Meet the Teacher. CTA Goodman students will have recess first then eat lunch in the MPR. During lunch, students will sit with their classes at assigned tables. Sixth graders can earn outside dining. *Cafeteria rules still apply; no yelling, stay seated, raise your hands to throw away food or go to the restroom. Students are asked to throw away their plates and all trash.
Does CTA Goodman provide breakfast? Of course! Students are allowed to purchase breakfast each morning starting at 7:45 a.m. Students need to be finished with breakfast by 8:00 a.m.
Can parents come to lunch? Yes, Parents may come and eat with only their student. We will communicate with families when you are able to start having lunch with your child. When visiting for lunch parents will sign in at the front office and have lunch with their child at the picnic tables.
Will students get to participate in daily announcements? 6th and 5th grade students read a daily “Words of Wisdom” quote.
Will there be after school clubs? Many of our teachers will host a variety of clubs for students after school. As well, there will be many classes offered by our Community Education Department. Please visit the following link for more information: Community Education - After School Clubs
Will students get to go on field trips? Each grade level will plan their field trips at the beginning of the year. Please make your tax credit donation each school year. Students will also be responsible for a classroom activity fee that will be for local field trips and enrichment programs on campus. Some grade levels will have an additional field trip fee for extended field trips. The activity fees and your tax credit donations help with the cost of field trips.
Do students get to check out books from the library? Yes! We have a beautiful library on campus. Our Media Specialist will conduct library classes one day during the 6-day rotation. The Media Specialist will also have different open library times for students to visit and check out books.
What kind of technology does CTA Goodman have? CTA Goodman has a computer lab on campus. Grade levels 2 – 6 have COWS. No, not a real cow! COW stands for Computers on Wheels. Each grade level has COWS that have 30 laptop computers. Grade levels K – 1 have access to iPads.
Do students participate in Specials classes like Music, PE, Library and Technology Classes? All students K-6 will get to participate in PE twice during the 6-day rotation. All students K-6 will also participate in technology and library class one time each in a 6-day rotation. Students K-4 will participate in general music twice during the 6-day rotation. Students 5-6 will have the option to participate in general music, band or orchestra during Block Schedule.
Does CTA Goodman have Band and Orchestra? Band and Orchestra is available to any student in grades 5-6 who are interested in learning how to play an instrument. Students have the option of taking band, orchestra, or general music during Block Schedule.

Does CTA Goodman have a dress code? Yes, we do! Please review CTA Procedure Manual for dress code. CTA Goodman will have Monday – Thursday prescribed uniform dress. The CTA Handbook can be found by viewing the attached link: CUSD Elementary Handbook
What happens if my student isn’t feeling well? If a student does not feel well during the day or if they get hurt at school, they will visit our school Health Assistant. If parents need to be called, it will be done through the health office. It is very important that you submit the Annual Update as soon as possible. This contains the contact information in the event we need to contact you during the school day. Students will need to be picked up within an hour.
Who do I notify if my student will be absent from school? Please call the attendance line at 480.812.6903. You can leave a message at any time. The absence line is a 24/7 voice messaging system. You can also email the Attendance Technician at tanquary.kathryn@cusd80.com.
Can students bring a cell phone to school? The Chandler Unified School District does not assume responsibility for loss of, or damage to personal property. Students are welcome to bring their phone with them to school, however it must stay in their backpack and off while at school. They may not use their phone during the school day. PLEASE have a conversation with your child if they need to bring their phone to school. If a teacher/staff sees it, they will ask the student to put it away. The next time, they will keep the phone until their parent comes to pick it up. Thank you for your assistance.
Can students bring other liquids to drink? To keep our school and carpets clean, we are asking that you only send students with water in their water bottles. If you would like to put a juice box or other drink in their lunchbox (it will stay in their lunchbox) that is okay. In the classrooms we will have a WATER ONLY policy going forward.
