Knox Gifted Academy (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Five Knox Gifted Academy students won 1st place, the "Governor's Cup Championship" in the chess tournament in May. Congratulations to Aaron Li, Henry Zhou, Alan Zhang, Vedant Mudaliar, and Evan Lushnikov.
Arizona College Prep High School (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Sophomore Andrew Yang won the AIA Div. 3 state singles championship at the Paseo Racquet Center. Andrew, seeded No 2, beat No. 4 Jacob Kauffman in the championship match 6-2, 7-6. The ACP High School tennis program is coached by John Deogracias.
Perry High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Will Lucas who qualified as national contender earning a gold medal in the Public Policy Advocate competitive event at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State competition. He is moving on to FCCLA Nationals in San Diego, CA this summer.
Hamilton High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hamilton's Academic Decathlon team was named Regional Champion (7th year in a row), State Champion (4th year in a row), and placed 4th in Div. 1 at NATIONALS after competing against 47 schools from the US and China! Congratulations to Chloe Zhan, Andy Ma, Kenny Wang, Shriya Bathula, Navaneeth Unnikrishnan, Sanvi Lamba, Arun Chebrolu, Angela Sun and Taryn Preis. VARSITY
Auxier Elementary (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Auxier Elementary sixth grader Lundyn Smith has been a SUPERSTAR on the Casteel Junior High Academic Pentathlon team this year. During the state competition Lundyn was named 1st in the state in three of the five events and the top sixth grader in science. She was #1 overall for honors sixth graders. She also beat all honors seventh graders and only one honors eighth grader outscored her. Lundyn and Casteel advance to Nationals which will be held in about a month. Arizona is one of the top states in Pentathlon, so she is a legitimate contender for National Champion. Coach Sheila Wilson is very excited to have her join the pentathlon class next year. Sixth graders from feeder schools are eligible to compete on the Casteel team, but generally must study on their own to prepare for competition (can't attend class or club).
Hamilton High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Students from Hamilton High School were crowned Arizona State Champions in the David Ricardo Economics Challenge. They now advance to national semi-finals. On Friday April 15, 28 Hamilton students competed in the Arizona Economic Challenge Competition held at Mesa Community College. Rachel Kan, Chloe Zhan, Kenny Wang, and Andy Ma are Arizona State Champions in the David Ricardo Economics Category. A second team of Kevin Li, Arnav Nigam, Vivienn Burnett and Arhan Sankhla took first place in Personal Finance Challenge and Ryan Gan, Aditya Patel, and Vihaan Hari received the Judges Award in Personal Finance Case Study. Arizona College Prep High School (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Yatee Kapoor for winning 1st place in the Senior Individual Website category at the National History Day State competition April 9-10. Yatee's website was titled "The Route 40 Saga: A Road of Racism, Debate, and Diplomacy ." Yatee was among top two entries in the category at the state/affiliate level, and is now invited to the National Contest to be held virtually June 12-16.
Arizona College Prep Middle School (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Than Tsay and Thanvi Voruganti for winning 1st place in the Junior Individual Website category at the National History Day State competition April 9-10. Ethan's website was titled "Baldwin V. Buckley: The Debate of the American Dream," and Thanvi's website was titled "Dave Brubeck: Diplomacy Through Jazz." Ethan and Thanvi were among top two entries in their category at the state/affiliate level, and are now invited to the National Contest to be held virtually June 12-16.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Emma Weiss, Chandler High School Freshman, and National History Day State winner! The National History Day state competition was April 9-10 and was held virtually, and Emma is one of eight CUSD students to win and move on to Nationals June 12-16. Emma's project is titled You've Got a Friend in Me: The Importance of Grassroots Diplomacy in Post-War Reconciliation as Demonstrated by German-American Friendship Clubs.
Chandler Unified School District (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: The National History Day state competition was April 9-10 and was held virtually. Chandler Unified had 5 projects/8 students win, and they move on now to Nationals! The top two entries in every category at the state/affiliate level are invited to the National Contest to be held virtually June 12-16.
Willis Junior High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Abbie Johnson, Clara Olpin, Hana Gerstberger and Alexia Heaton for winning 1st place in the Junior Group Performance category at the National History Day State competition with their presentation "The Equal Rights Amendment." Abbie, Clara, Hana and Alexia were among top two entries in their category at the state/affiliate level, and are now invited to the National Contest to be held virtually June 12-16. Willis Junior High is proud to continue their strong tradition of sending student to National Competition.
Basha Accelerated Middle School (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Basha AMS Academic Pentathlon team finished 1st place in Arizona, taking the STATE CHAMPIONS title for the second year in a row! Congratulations to our STATE CHAMPIONS WINNING TEAM of Arnav Modem, Karan Vallamshetla, Grace Gaffney, Pranjal Singh, Abhinav Sirigineedi, Breanna Bearden, Dorian Hewett, Kayla Ong and Andrew Ritchay. Santan Junior High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Santan Junior High School drumline won the WGAZ (Winter Guard Arizona) State Championship on April 2-3. Additionally, the Santan band director Mike Hancock was named the WGAZ Director of the Year.
Hamilton High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team of Samantha Mendez and Brielle Rodriguez who earned gold medals and in the Chapter Service Project category at the 2022 FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Tucson March 28-30. Samantha and Brielle created a mindfulness, yoga, and sensory classroom which they named, the "Calming Corner." This special classroom is intended to provide a relaxing place for preschool and kindergarten students to go and learn calming practices to improve their social and emotional skills. Their project scored within the top two projects in the state, which qualified them for the National FCCLA competition in San Diego in June. Chapter advisor Kristine McGettigan and chapter members could not be prouder of their hard work and dedication.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team of Kate Hoddy, Ava Hrey, and Katie Weir who earned gold medals and in the Focus on Children category at the 2022 FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Tucson March 28-30. They successfully taught "Baby Sign Language" to the students in the toddler two's classroom to help with the frustration often associated with speech and language at this age. Chapter advisor Kristine McGettigan and chapter members could not be prouder of their hard work and dedication.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team of Natalie DeMarco, Grace Gile, and Madi Schantz who earned gold medals and in the Focus on Children category at the 2022 FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Tucson March 28-30. They taught kindergarten students the importance of "Healthy Habits." They created creative weekly lessons to teach the importance of nutrition, exercise, and dental health. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: It was a GOLD medal sweep for Hamilton Early Childhood Education (ECE) students who competed at the 2022 Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference in Tucson March 28-30. Congratulations to Samantha Mendez, Brielle Rodriguez, Kate Hoddy, Ava Hrey, Katie Weir, Natalie DeMarco, Grace Gile, and Madi Schantz, who made history for the HHS ECE program by all achieving gold medals. It was also the first time to have a team of students qualify to compete at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference. Their competitive projects all involved helping to improve the development of young children. Though Hamilton's on-campus Lil' Explorers program was shut down prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year, a community partnership with Risen Savior Early Childhood Center allowed Hamilton's advanced ECE students the opportunity to work with directly with toddler, preschool, and kindergarten children.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Chandler High Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students worked hard worked on projects since December and took medals at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference March 28-30. The students' dedication and hard work paid off with their wins, and they will take on the rest of the U.S. at FCCLA Nationals this summer in San Diego. Hamilton High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Congratulations to Hamilton senior and second year EVIT fashion program student Brenna Gentner who competed at the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) State Leadership Conference in Tucson March 28-30. Her team presented a project in Event Management focusing on preparations for the annual spring fashion show (specifically coordination of models, collection merchandising and backstage activities). The team not only received gold medals along with qualifying for Nationals (which takes place in summer 2022), but they were also each awarded $5,000/year renewable scholarships to attend FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising).

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Arizona College Prep Middle School VEX Robotics teams (7830A & 7830C) under the direction of Kim Meyer were state champions. They also received the Excellence Award. The 7830K earned the Design Award. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Hamilton High took the state title in Open Div. Small Jazz at the AIA Arizona State Cheer and Dance Competition on March 12. Hamilton also won 3rd in the Div. I Pom competition. Congratulations!
Perry High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Perry High took home state championships in Div. I Varsity Show Cheer and Open Div. Medium Jazz at the AIA Arizona State Cheer and Dance Competition on March 12. Perry also took 2nd in Div. I All Girls Stunt. Congratulations!

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Perry Pumas won their first-ever basketball championship by beating district rival Hamilton High, 48-38, in the 6A final game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Wednesday night. It was the first time two schools from CUSD met in a basketball championship game.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Perry DECA (Marketing 1 & 2, Student Based Enterprise and Cooperative Education classes) competed at the Arizona DECA State competition and won the state chapter community service award (Most Community Service Hours in Arizona) and the century award (100+ chapter members). They also won four national awards: Chapter Membership Award (2nd largest Chapter in Arizona); Chapter Advocacy Award; Puma Den Food - Bronze; Puma Den Retail - Silver, and several individual awards.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: ACP High School's Speech & Debate Team under the direction of Mr. Norm Rumsey won the Division II State Championship for the third consecutive year. In addition to winning the title, 12 students or teams were crowned individual state champions at Saturday's championship tournament.
Casteel High (2021-2022)
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Casteel High School, behind four individual state champions, won its second consecutive Div. II wrestling title at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, February 19. Jackson Rustad (120 pounds), Sergio Ramos (132 pounds), Brennan Callison (165 pounds) and Raychon Cardona (285 pounds) brought home medals for the Colts.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Perry High took home state championships in Div. I Varsity Pom and Div. I-IV Varsity Jazz Small at the Arizona State Cheer and Pom Tournament in February 2022. Perry also placed in three additional competitions: 2nd in Div. I-IV Frosh/JV Pom and 3rd in Div. I JV Show Cheer and Div. I Varsity All Girl stunt. Congratulations!
