About
Thurston...
Hello and welcome! My name is Blake Thurston, I am Special Education teacher working at Bologna Elementary School. This is my second full year as a Special Education teacher, and I so thankful to be able to do this work! My door is always open to parents that have any questions. I love to be helpful, so if there is anything I can do to help your child succeed, please let me know!
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from ASU with my bachelor's in Creative Writing in the summer of 2015. After undergrad I went into Public Allies, where I worked at an elementary school in Maryvale, Phoenix as their full-time librarian. It was there that I knew I wanted to become a teacher, so I went back to ASU and got my Master's degree in Special Education. I have been working in Special Education ever since and I absolutely love it!
My Educational Philosophy
I am a firm believer that every student learns differently. It is our jobs as educators to meet them in that space, bringing with us our expertise and our knowledge to give them the tools to succeed. I also believe that it is vitally important for all students to learn how to advocate for themselves, so that they may become independent and self-sufficient.
