    Welcome!

Welcome to Weinberg Gifted Academy! I am thrilled to be a part of the WGA Community. I look forward to building lasting relationships with students and families as we embark together on this exciting learning adventure! My outlook for this year is best summed up by the words of the immortal Mr. Walt Disney, “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious … and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

    My Education and Professional Background

I have been teaching gifted students in CUSD for my entire teaching career. In addition to being part of the Weinberg Gifted Academy faculty, I’ve had the privilege of teaching at Tarwater, Ryan, Knox Gifted Academy, and COA Elementary Connect. I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelors of Arts in Education (2004) and Masters of Arts in Education (Curriculum and Instruction, 2009). I am endorsed in Gifted Education, K-8 Mathematics, Early Childhood Education and Structured English Immersion. I have worked with gifted elementary students in both traditional self-contained classroom settings and non-traditional self-contained settings utilizing integrated problem-based learning, project-based learning, and design thinking. I have also designed and presented math professional development at the local, state and national level. I love working with students, teachers and pre-service teachers. I have a passion for gifted and math education.

    My Educational Philosophy

I believe that curiosity comes first in the classroom. I want to spark creativity, spur risk-taking and animate innovation in learners. I believe in a student-centered classroom community that values student voices. I believe everyone is a "math" person, and I strive to help students find joy and wonder in mathematics. It is my goal to move beyond providing children with choices, and, instead focus on inspiring possibilities.
