    Welcome!

Hi, my name is Melanie Darden and I am thrilled to be teaching at Weinberg Gifted Academy. I live in Gilbert with my husband, three sons, two crazy cats and our Golden Retriever, Sunny. We have a very full house and are a big sports family. I can be found cheering my kids on in their various games most weekends. I was born and raised in San Diego, California and have wanted to be a teacher since I was in third grade and was inspired by my amazing teacher. I absolutely love teaching and the process of evolving as an educator and being creative. There is always more to learn and new things to try. I have the unique honor of being a parent at WGA with you as I have a son who attends school here.

    My Education and Professional Background

I have taught in first, second, and fifth grades in both private and public schools. I earned my B.A in Liberal Studies and teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton and also earned my GATE (gifted and talented education) certification in California. I am currently working on getting my gifted endorsement from the state of Arizona. I have several years of experience teaching gifted students and truly enjoy working with and learning from my students every year.

    My Educational Philosophy

My hope for all of my students is that they develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. I strive to create a stimulating and supportive educational environment where my students feel free to take risks and can grow academically, emotionally, and socially. I try to model and encourage a growth mindset where every experience is an opportunity to learn, adjust, grow, and keep going!
