    Hello Santan Families. My name is Darien Smith and I teach Pre-Kindergarten. This will be my first year with CUSD. I took 5 years off to do the best job which was to be at home with my kids and I enjoyed every chaotic moment of it. Now that they’re all heading into school I felt it was a good time to be back in the classroom doing the next best job which is teaching. I have taught preschool/pre-kindergarten for a total of 5 years. I have five kids, one stepdaughter who is 19, a daughter who is 10, a son who is 5, a son who is 4, and a daughter who is 2 ½. My very rambunctious boys play tee-ball, love to be outdoors, and are my alarm clocks in the morning. My very graceful girls love to dance, play softball, and shop! I love watching their activities and boy do they keep me very busy. There is never a dull moment in my house. I am so excited to join CUSD and to be a part of the Santan Family. I feel very welcome here and I hope you all will too!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated from Cal State Fullerton with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Child and Adolescent Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. Then I continued school and got my M.A. in Education again with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. I am very passionate about ECE and love to attend professional development classes or training to stay up to date on the latest research and techniques. I currently hold an Early Childhood Teaching Certificate for Birth- Grade 3. I have taught in both public and private school settings and love them both.

    My Educational Philosophy

    My goal in the classroom is to ensure each child is and feels safe, loved, and confident. It is my goal to create a positive classroom climate and a home away from home for the kiddos while they’re in my care. I am a firm believer in learning through play at this age and will create hands on experiences for your kiddos to grow.
