Other Notes
Good discussion about secondary schools’ discipline practices and procedures. Group asked specific questions to the speakers. Police also provided answers to certain situations.
After the speakers, the group acted as school administrators by reacting to different scenarios. They had to discuss and report out what should be done with each scenario.

Other Notes
Students provided good insight into safety concerns and issues at their schools. Three high school and two junior high students participated. The five students were articulate and sincere in their statements. Students had concerns and praises for their schools.

After the speakers, the group acted as school administrators by reacting to different scenarios. They had to discuss and report out what should be done with each scenario.

Praises:
The students have a trusted adult on campus they can talk to about personal issues. Students feel safe on campus. Students appreciate having an SRO on campus. Students are aware of school rules and consequences. Students know how to report suspicious behavior on campus.

Next Meeting:
February 11, 2025. Chandler Police Department will present on the role of the police in the schools and in the community.

- Hire more Staff of Color so that our students can see themselves (mirrors)

- Study Session: Parents of color would like to see achievement, and discipline data shared during the Governing Board Study session by the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
- Culture Competency training for all Front Office Staff Members verses other School Districts/Don’t feel welcome – some schools do not have a welcoming environment for school visitors.

- Superintendent Narducci talked about the Upcoming school board elections, Overrides & Bonds.
- African American advisory member shared - connecting with the students of color so they feel like they belong, and their concerns do matter in CUSD.
- Hispanic advisory member shared - ACT is a requirement for all CUSD 9th & 11th graders.
- Continue CUSD Parents of Color Advisory Board meetings.
- Native American advisory member - shared the need for CUSD administrator to effectively communicate, collaborate with parent groups before decision that will impact them are finalized.
- Superintendent Narducci shared community programs (East Valley Dream Center, AZCEND & The Hive in partnership with AZCEND at San Marcos).
- Superintendent Narducci shared CUSD is providing technological devices for translation for the students & parents.
- Superintendent Narducci shared about the use of Parent Square in CUSD that allows for the translation of any language spoken within CUSD.
- Native American advisory member shared the need to have more than one Native American district liaison - one person is currently serving 1500 students.

Committee provided feedback on Q2 achievements-Majority of group discussed that Counseling and Social Services is providing a wide range of opportunities to engage the community with opportunities to learn and grow in the area of counseling, mental health, and social services.
Polly Knapp discussed that it was vital that we were providing education on the dangers of fentanyl and Adrianna Erickson provided a resource and connection to the Community Liaison for Maricopa County Sherriff’s office who are working with the Latino population on the issue of fentanyl.
In relation to our CBI Next Step Diversion Program, Steph Reeves discussed that it would be helpful to have an elementary diversion program for students and social media as many students are having consequences related to behaviors in school that start on social media.
Yasmin Barker discussed that Chandler Fire would like to participate in the Community Connection Event to pass out Narcan to participants.
Violeta Flores discussed the importance of the Bullying 301 course that was offered to teachers and staff.
Jessica Westmiller provided information on the importance of gathering feedback from participants at the conclusions of our community events. She expressed that having feedback will disclose the importance of what participants took away from the event
Kelly Geisler provided 25 Christmas Bags for Val Gyory and the FIT programs.
