Welcome!
Welcome to second grade at Tarwater. I am so excited about getting to know your family. We will learn to do so many exciting things in second grade. Your child will blossom as a reader and become fluent with math facts! I hope to make this year a fun and exciting one!
My Education and Professional Background
I have been teaching in early childhood education for 19 years. I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education specializing in early childhood from Arizona State University. I have an Early Childhood Endorsement and SEI endorsement. While attending ASU, I started teaching two year olds and then the following semester I assisted teaching four year olds. I absolutely fell in love with the way they saw the world when I introduced new things! Once I graduated from Arizona State University, I couldn't wait to teach the primary grades. It was why I went back to school! I started with full-day kindergarten for five years, 11 years teaching first grade and two years in second grade. This is my third year at Tarwater teaching second grade. I strive to make learning successful for each child. It is fun to watch the growth the students make in just one year! I am so proud to teach at Tarwater Elementary with a staff that is dedicated to academic excellence.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.
