My Education and Professional Background
Bachelor of Science - Brigham Young University
Master of Education - Univ. of Nevada, Reno/Lake Tahoe Campus (formerly Sierra Nevada College)
15 Years Corporate Experience - Sierra Pacific Power & NV Energy, Reno Nevada
-Safety & Health Consultant
-HR Business Partner
Teaching is a 2nd career for me. I earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Brigham Young University. After graduating from college, I spent 15 years at NV (Nevada) Energy in Reno, Nevada. I started in the Safety Department as a Health & Safety Consultant. Eventually, I moved to Human Resources as an HR Business Partner.
The power industry was amazing, but my job required a lot of travel. My husband and I had 2 small boys starting school. Since I loved the education part of my corporate job, I went back to school and earned a Masters in Education at University of Reno, Lake Tahoe campus.
I have been teaching for CUSD since 2014, most recently as 6th grade Science & Social Science teacher at CTA Freedom. They say find something you love doing and you'll never work a day in your life. I lucked out! Both teaching and science are my passions, so I truly enjoy my job! 👩🏫🔬🧫
My Educational Philosophy
My class motto is, "You're not here to be average, you're here to be awesome!" I am passionate about making education and learning something the students enjoy! Seeing students become capable, independent learners is what makes my job amazing! My classroom is filled with high expectations, along with mutual respect, laughter and encouragement. I believe that students learn best when they are surrounded by consistency and positive energy within the classroom. It takes a village to raise these amazing young adults! Student growth will be the result of hard work and communication between parents, students, and myself.
