    My Education and Professional Background

I am so thrilled to be here this year at Casteel High School teaching science and biotechnology. At Arizona State, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology, I became a teaching assistant for an animal physiology lab. There I was able to share my excitement and love for biology with other students who were just as passionate as me. This twisted my career path in a new direction. I had to become a teacher. I continued my education and completed my Masters in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Biology. I currently hold my gifted endorsement and I am highly qualified in Biology and Bioscience. I have had the opportunity to teach core and honors biology at Chandler High, and 7th/8th Grade Gifted Science at Payne for 3 years. At Casteel, I've taught a combination of Honors Biology, AP Biology, AP Research, and Biotechnology. I am very excited to get to know not only my students but also parents. I am looking forward to working together to strive for educational excellence for all students.

    My Educational Philosophy

Many students come to school in order to achieve success and challenge themselves. The classroom is not the only place where this should happen. With a solid work ethic, dedication, passion, and ambition, dreams are achievable. While the road to success may not always be smooth, I strive to prepare students to rise to the occasion. The purpose of science is to understand natural phenomenon and the world around us through investigation and inquiry. Teachers are able to provide the knowledge, explanations, and applications of science to each and every student. I hope while doing this, I challenge student’s ideas and spark their interests. In the science classroom, it is essential to not only present the material for students to understand, but to also incorporate real-life experiences and activities that revolve around the information being presented. Students learn best by doing, discovering, experimenting, and applying.
