Welcome!

This is my fourth year as the librarian at ACP-Oakland, and I am thrilled to be here! I've always dreamed of being a librarian, and I love helping students find and embrace a love for reading! You may contact me anytime with questions about our ACP-O library! I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library. ~ Jorge Luis Borges

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin with degrees in English and Elementary Education. Previously, I taught 4th grade and middle school language arts, and I supervised student teachers for Northern Arizona University.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every person who works on a school campus is an important part of the educational process and integral in nurturing and encouraging lifelong learners. As a librarian, I think it's important to share reading, research, and academic support for students, but I also embrace showing them they how much they matter as people! I love watching middle schoolers bloom and grow during their three years on our campus, and I know all of my colleagues and I play an important role in that process.

Welcome!

Hello, Knights! I am very excited to be joining the team here at ACPMS this year. A little about me: My partner, Brian, and I have a toddler and preschooler who definitely keep us on our toes! We love to travel together as a family and especially love escaping to Flagstaff for some cooler weather. I enjoy coffee, reading, and learning new things! I’m also a big fan of the Denver Broncos.

My Education and Professional Background

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Family and Human Development with minors in Sociology and Theatre. I also hold a Master's in Social Work and have a Standard School Social Worker Certificate from the Department of Education. I worked for the Department of Child Safety and then Southwest Human Development before coming to work in the Chandler School District. I have over a decade of experience in the education field and I am excited to work with middle schoolers in this capacity.

My Educational Philosophy

I firmly believe that students are best able to focus on academics if they first and foremost have healthy coping skills, a strong support system, and the ability to recognize when they need help. The changes that happen in middle school are more than just physical – relationships, opinions, responsibilities, expectations, and interests are getting defined, and that can bring a unique set of challenges for each student. My role as a social worker is to provide them with the support they need while navigating this new territory to help them achieve their goals.

Welcome!

I am thrilled to be a part of your student's academic journey this year. As parents and teachers, if we want children to work with a sense of purpose in school, we must communicate with them to establish a sense of purpose in their exploration of various topics including literature studies, informational text, vocabulary development, and writing. Together we will create an environment where all students will achieve success through intellectual challenges, creativity, and self-empowerment.

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education English Graduated Suma Cum Laude Arizona State University

My Educational Philosophy

There are seven important characteristics that will allow students to be successful in the classroom. None of these characteristics can be measured by IQ. With substantial data and research the following traits are what every student needs to be successful: curiosity, grit, self-control, zest, social intelligence, gratitude, and optimism. I believe that modeling and nurturing these qualities in each student will enable them to achieve success throughout the year as well as in the future. It is my primary goal to challenge students to think for themselves and become lifelong learners.

Welcome to sixth grade reading. In this class, students will be challenged to read deeply into fiction and non-fiction texts and to analyze various qualities of those texts such as theme, character development, plot, and more. As students learn to analyze and respond to literature, they will also improve their communication skills and problem solving skills that will allow them to succeed in all areas of their lives.

My Education and Professional Background

Elementary Education; University of Central Missouri M.Ed.- Curriculum and Design This is my 11th year of teaching and my 7th year of teaching 6th grade at Arizona College Prep. It is my honor to be a teacher at ACP and to teach your children.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that learning is a key to unlocking doors for many people. As a teacher, it is my goal to help students learn not only basic reading skills but also how to research, communicate, and examine literature in a way that they can enable themselves to succeed in any environment that they may encounter. When students are given a challenge, they will rise to that challenge and thrive. It is my job as a teacher to empower students to rise to the challenges that they may encounter in my classroom.

My Educational Philosophy

I embrace teaching as an opportunity to inspire and empower children. Each student is on a journey of intellectual, personal, and social growth. As a teacher, I recognize that I am one guide on that journey. All students will enter my classroom with unique backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and views. Each student receives and perceives information differently. Therefore, the path each child takes is exclusive. Every path contains obstacles and it is my responsibility to assist each individual child in overcoming these challenges. I am a facilitator for each child's growth. Teachers have the ability to stimulate imagination, energize students to achieve their goals, and ignite their spirit. I embrace the responsibility of this challenge.

Welcome! I am very excited to be a math teacher at ACP Middle School. It has always been a dream of mine to teach only math. I find solving math equations to be fun as if I am solving a puzzle. I also like that these problems have a solution even if it is no solution. I enjoy putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing board games with my family, and best of all babysitting my grandsons. (I am always willing to show the last pictures of them!)

My Education and Professional Background

I completed my B.S.E. of Elementary Education in 2000 from Arizona State University. I substituted for my first year as I was not certain which grade level I wanted to teach. I quickly found that I enjoyed fifth and sixth grade students as well as the curriculum they were taught. I began teaching in the Gilbert Public Schools. After three years, life took an interesting turn for me. I left teaching and went back to school earning a paralegal certificate. I worked as a paralegal for several years when I realized that I enjoyed time with the clients' children rather than preparing documents. So, life took yet another turn right back into the classroom. I taught for eight years at a small charter school in Chandler. In 2017, I moved to CTA Goodman as a sixth grade teacher after earning my endorsement in Math. In 2021, the opportunity to move and teach math at ACP Middle School presented itself. I am enjoying the students as well as the math!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that all children are gifts each bringing their own unique qualities to my classroom. I believe that each student will learn. I believe that each student will find success. I believe that parents of my students and myself have a partnership to help grow their child.

From there I moved to the Higley School district where I taught Algebra and Geometry at the high school and 7th and 8th grade math at the junior high level. My Educational Philosophy

As an art teacher, I believe that art in general is an important part of education because it is a major component in the foundation of our world. Art as a school subject weaves all other subjects together & references our past, present & future. Aesthetically speaking, Harry Broudy, a well-known educational philosopher, said that the arts are necessary, not 'just nice.' Through the heightening of their aesthetic perceptions, students can find increased meaning is all aspects of life.' I aspire to show students all of the talent & creativity that they possess inside as well as heighten students' aesthetic perceptions. I strive for my students to value the world & all of the art that has been put into it.

Welcome to Arizona College Prep - Oakland. I believe Physical Education is an integral component of our daily life. I strongly believe everyone, students and parents alike can learn to become lifelong activity participants. I focus on teaching lifetime activity to my students so they can have the foundation to be active through their life, far beyond their college years. PE is a perfect place to have students experience a variety of activities, develop socially, while working with others.

My Education and Professional Background

I began my education earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Arizona State University. Once graduated I obtained a job as a social worker for a couple years before going back to school to earn my Master's in Physical Education from Arizona State University. I had the opportunity to travel to Argentina and teach English abroad for one year. In 2015, I completed my dissertation and graduated from Arizona State University with a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in physical education.

My Educational Philosophy

My teaching philosophy has evolved over time to match the dynamic nature of education. As a teacher, it is important to understand students in order for them to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and promoters of lifetime physical activity. I believe the best way to accomplish this is to create environments and learning experiences that develop these characteristics for student success through interactions between the school, student, and surrounding community. Students should be in an environment that is safe while at the same time allowing for creativity, freethinking, responsible behavior, and an understanding of diverse learners and populations. I make certain to include multiple teaching strategies, as I understand students have a variety of learning styles and process information differently. In addition, it is of utmost importance that students respect one another, as this interaction enables the students to grow and learn from one another.

I pursued a double major of Mathematics & Computer Science & Engineering for my Bachelor's degree. During my course of study, I found myself in Education and never looked back. I received my Master's in Educational Administration from GCU in 2009. As a teacher, I taught Mathematics & Science (Chemistry & Physics). I moved into my first official leadership role as a Mathematics Instructional Specialist in Texas and then shifted into an Assistant Principal role three years later in Texas. I was hesitant at first to move into a full leadership role because of my love for teaching but have found that I enjoy being in administration. I have 11 years experience as a secondary administrator.

My Educational Philosophy

Students first in everything.

My Education and Professional Background

I studied the double bass at Mannes College of Music in Manhattan with John Dewitt, and I graduated with a bachelors degree in music education and performance from The Crane School of Music. During my years at Crane I held the principal chair in the symphony orchestra, the chamber orchestra, and the jazz big band. I also performed in the Orchestra of Northern NY alongside my bass instructor, John Geggie. I studied violin, viola, and cello as secondary instruments in college. I began teaching orchestra in Syracuse, NY within the Liverpool School District. I moved to Arizona in 2005 and taught for the Deer Valley School District for several years. Since 2009, I have been teaching orchestra for the Chandler Unified School District. I also perform professionally on a regular basis.

My Educational Philosophy

In my classroom, it's never just about music. We're learning how to set goals, take responsibility for ourselves, meet deadlines, and collaborate in a positive way with a variety of different people. Teamwork is a very important part of what I teach in an orchestra class. As students excel on their instruments they gain skills and techniques, but they also learn that to achieve in life takes work and dedication. At the core of it all, they learn that work can be fun, and that achieving goals is rewarding.

Welcome!

Welcome to Pre Algebra and Algebra! Math is such an important part of our daily lives, as well as our futures. I am happy to be part of such an important part of the ACP-O family.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended NMSU and graduated with a BBA in Human Resource Management and a BBA in Productions Operations Management. While I didn't minor in any subject, I took numerous math classes and could have easily minored in math had that been an option at the time. I worked in the business world for 20 years in management positions and achieved a great deal of success. I left that world to spend more time with my sons and as a result, the education field became a perfect fit. I received my sub certification and began subbing which turned into long term assignments in several schools here in the Chandler and Gilbert area. I taught science at Gilbert Jr High for a year. I taught language arts on a long term assignment at San Tan Jr. High. I taught PE for a year at Shumway Elementary. I taught Special Ed at Shumway, also for a year. I taught math on several long term assignments at Willis in the CAT's program.

My Educational Philosophy

My most recent full time assignment was teaching Algebra and 8th grade math at Andersen Jr. High. While at Andersen, I also coached 7th and 8th grade basketball. Most of my experience in the classroom as been in teaching math. I have successfully passed the math state exam, which is the exam needed to be allowed to teach math in Arizona. Along with passing that test, I've also taken the high school business exam which allows me to teach business courses at the high school level. I currently coach Freshman, JV, and varsity tennis at Chandler High School. This spring I am going to start work on my Masters of Education degree through the University of Arizona.

My Educational Philosophy

Every child needs a support system to succeed. It takes the support from family, friends, and mentors throughout life to truly grow. It is my goal to provide support to all of my students as well as push them beyond the limitations they set upon themselves. Seeing students surprise themselves with how their efforts have paid off is what fuels my love of teaching. My mission is to push students to always strive to better in all aspects of life. To me, Math is more than numbers. It is a skill that teaches our students to be problem solvers. I feel that our students will go from solving a problem on a test, to solving a problem in our world.

After exploring much of Latin America, I have spent time volunteering in South Korea as an English teacher.
