Whitlark...
As the proud principal at Navarrete Elementary School I look forward to getting to know each and every parent and child in our school community. I am honored to lead the dedicated staff whose commitment to quality education has been proven and where kids come first.
My Education and Professional Background
I was born and raised in Arizona. I grew up in Chandler; a product of the Kyrene and Tempe Union High School Districts. I received my bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona University in Elementary Education as well as my master's degree in Educational Leadership. I launched my teaching career as a fourth grade teacher and quickly realized that my passion was in primary education and then spent the next four years as a kindergarten teacher. After five years in the classroom, I began my administrative career as a Dean of Students at Navarrete Elementary School. I served as the dean for two years when the prospect of experiencing the world of secondary education presented itself; it was a great opportunity to experience the K-12 spectrum. The next three years I was assistant principal at Combs Middle School and the newly built Combs High School. Nothing could have prepared me more for the role of elementary school principal than my three years at the secondary level. I was able to observe how elementary experiences prepare students for both middle school and high school. The chance to pursue an elementary school principalship was offered. Knowing that my passion and heart was always at the elementary school level; I took this as my destiny. I spent the last three years as the principal of Kathryn Sue Simonton Elementary School.
My Educational Philosophy
I am eager and excited to partner with the Navarrete community in providing an inclusive environment for all children and their families; offering the best educational opportunities possible and instilling the love for learning. I am proud to call Chandler my home and Navarrete my family.

Welcome to computers! Technology is changing constantly and we don't have time to lose so buckle up...it's going to be quite a ride!
My Education and Professional Background
I hold an Associate of Arts in Computer Art and Animation from the Art Institute of Phoenix. I continued my education and completed a Bachelor Degree in Business Marketing and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education both from University of Phoenix. I have been teaching with computers and technology since 2008.
My Educational Philosophy
No matter what situation you are in there is something to be learned from everything. There are always going to be things that seem boring or don't interest us, however, giving up is the only way one can fail. Students' role is to take on the responsibility to learn in all circumstances. A teacher's job is to provide the opportunity and the environment for that to happen. Both the teacher and the student together make education successful. It's like making a banana and Nutella sandwich, you need both ingredients to make it the most amazing masterpiece. It's not so great if all you had was the banana.

Buist...
My name is Melissa Buist, I am excited to begin another year here at Navarette. I have been teaching 3rd grade here since the school opened in 2004. I cannot WAIT to be part of your child's 3rd grade learning experience. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my husband, who also teaches in the Chandler District, and our two daughters, Madelyn and Makenna. Teaching this age is so fun, engaging, and exciting. I look forward to a seamless home/school partnership.
My Education and Professional Background
After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Radio and TV in 1998, I moved to Phoenix to work in the industry at the local NBC and FOX affiliates. After TV, I found myself climbing the corporate ladder in sales at a Fortune 500 company as a recruiting manager, I was a natural! Something was missing for me. I went back to school to get my masters degree at Northern Arizona University in Curriculum and Instruction, I was fulfilled! Teaching is my passion. Every year changes, the changes are welcomed. Third grade is a big year for growth,I enjoy seeing the kids grow. Teaching has filled the space for me professionally since 2004. I enjoy making a difference in young people's lives.
My Educational Philosophy
Winning isn't everything, the WANT to win is...Vince Lombardi's line drives my philosophy in regards to teaching. As long as the students give their personal best in the classroom, that is all I can ask. The WANT to do their best, the NEED to be problem solvers, the DRIVE to work hard to learn skills in and beyond the classroom is all I can ask. I hope to help build lifelong learners, create partnering with parents, and experience memories with kids that last forever. They'll always be my kid, even after our official time together. During our time together, they'll enjoy the year, I'll make sure of it.

My name is Gina Andersen. I love teaching kindergarten! I'm constantly amazed at how eager my kids are to learn, the things they say, and the energy they have! I look forward to an awesome year in Room 22!
My Education and Professional Background
I received my Bachelor of Art Degree in Recreation Administration from California State University, Chico. After working in the industry for six years, I went back to school and got my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Colorado at Denver. I have taught Kindergarten, First, and Second grade in Colorado, California, and Arizona. I have taught at Navarrete since July, 2005.
My Educational Philosophy
When a child enters Kindergarten, they step onto a path that leads them through education for the next 12 years. This path should celebrate each child as an individual, filling deficits and celebrating accomplishments alike. I feel that education needs to form the whole child, touching all areas of their being; academic, social, emotional, and physical. As a Kindergarten Teacher, I do everything I can to help each child LOVE school. It’s a long road, they need to enjoy the ride right from the start!

I live in Chandler with my husband and two children. We have a daughter, Cameryn, and a son, Carter. When I am not at school, I love to watch both my children play soccer. I also like to swim, hike, and spend time with my family.
My Education and Professional Background
My undergraduate degree is in Economics from Northern Illinois University. I was in the banking field for many years before going back to school to do what I truly love, which is teach. I earned my Masters in Elementary Education from Rockford College in 2001. I have been teaching at Navarrete since 2013.
My Educational Philosophy
Every child has a unique learning style. It is my job to help students discover and grow using that style. I believe that reading helps children develop a life-long love of learning, and that they should read and be read to every day. My classroom environment is loving, nurturing, and promotes respect, kindness, and community amongst all students.

Traylor...
Thank you for checking on my website page! I have been at Navarrete since 2010. I am so fortunate to be a part of a school that has such an amazing staff as well as excellent community support! The foundation of my 3rd grade classroom is built upon the 6 pillars of Character Counts. I encourage the students to enter our classroom ready to use these pillars and to be a good teammember. I believe that when we come together to learn as a TEAM we can all benefit from each other's help.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from NAU with a Bachelor of Science in Education a few years later with a masters in Curriculum Design and Instruction. I began my teaching career at Humphrey Elementary teaching 5th grade. At Humphrey I not only taught 5th grade, but got to loop up to 6th grade. I also taught a 3rd-4th grade combination class, followed by teaching 3rd grade for several years before leaving to become a stay-at-home-mom. Mr. Merrill graciously rehired me back in 2010 to teach a 2nd grade class at Navarrete. The following year I looped up to 3rd grade and have been teaching 3rd grade ever since!
My Educational Philosophy
We all have strengths and weaknesses as learners. I believe in teaching students to honestly reflect upon these as a way to better understand their own cognitive processing. I believe my job is to help students develop an understanding of how they learn and then encourage and motivate each of them to work up to their BEST potential by setting and working toward realistic goals.

Cavanaugh...
Hello, and welcome to fifth grade here at Navarrete Elementary. I look forward to the opportunity to play a part in your child's education this year. Please don't hesitate to call, e-mail, or swing by my class if ever you have a question for me.
My Education and Professional Background
Earned a Bachelor's degree at Purdue University for Education. Later I received a Masters from Northern Arizona University in Curriculum Design. I've been Teaching elementary school here in Arizona since 2001.
My Educational Philosophy
A philosophy on education was something easy to write while in college, back when I already knew everything there was to know about teaching. I realize now that education and any philosophy on how best to do so is a constantly changing entity, and not easy to define. Therefore the core of my thought process on teaching each day is that the student's needs are what comes first, and meeting those needs in the classroom is what my job is all about. I like to be approachable and foster respect that goes both ways. Once this is established students realize that I have a vested interest in their success, which naturally leads to greater accountability and effort in the classroom.

My Education and Professional Background
I have been teaching since 2005 and have a Bachelors of Elementary Education degree from Arizona State University and a Masters in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona State University. I have taught 5th grade since I started teaching and I love it! I like to teach all subjects but have a fondness for reading. My educational philosophy is simply that all children have the ability and the willingness to learn. It is my job as the teacher to teach them to want to learn and to teach them how learning is fun. All children do not learn the same way but they are ALL able to be taught to become lifelong learners. Life's best lessons do not come from a book, but from the acts of doing and experiencing.

Welcome to the library! After teaching in the classroom for many years, I am so excited to be in the library surrounded by thousands of wonderful books! While in the library, your child will learn many valuable skills and hopefully develop/continue a love of reading. When I'm not at Navarrete, I am usually with my husband and three children. Together we enjoy going to the movies, fishing, hiking, and watching sports. When I have some down time, my favorite thing to do is read a good book.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Education from Arizona State University and my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University. I also hold endorsements in Reading Instruction, Special Education, Sheltered English Immersion, and Early Childhood Education. Hohn...
I am so excited for the start of another school year. With each year comes exciting new possibilities! A little about me… I live in Gilbert with my husband and two kids. Both of my children attend Chandler Schools. In our free time we love to swim and soak up the sun as a family.
My Education and Professional Background
I started my teaching career in 2003 at the middle school. I first taught 6th , 7th , & 8th grade math and science. Next I taught 6th grade resource at the middle school. In Chandler I’ve taught a 4th, 5th, & 6th grade self-contained program and then K-6 resource. I've been fortunate to spend the majority of my career teaching in Chandler. I absolutely love working for Chandler Schools and really appreciate the emphasis they place on our children! I started out college at Baylor University, then found out that I prefer a dry climate and finished my Bachelor’s degree at NAU. My bachelor’s degree is a dual major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I also received my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from NAU.
My Educational Philosophy
“The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.” by C.S. Lewis I believe that ALL students can learn. It’s our job as educators to provide children the opportunities to learn. This can only be accomplished by working together as a team; involving the school staff , the child, and the parents/care givers to meet the learning needs of each individual child.

Welcome to 6th grade! I am an Arizona native, and have 3 beautiful daughters who also attend Chandler schools. I am looking forward to working with all the students, parents and teachers here at Navarrete!
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated with both my Bachelor of Science, and my Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. Go Lumberjacks! I first started my teaching career 20 years ago for the Tempe Elementary School District, where I taught 3rd and 5th grades. I moved to Chandler, and taught at Shumway Elementary in 6th and 2nd grades. I then took some time off from the classroom to raise my three daughters. During that time, I did some substitute teaching for the district, as well as worked as a 911 operator and dispatcher for the Phoenix Police Department. I am excited to be back in the classroom again teaching my favorite grade level!
My Educational Philosophy
I believe every child has the right, and ability to learn. My classroom is a safe, respectful and creative place where different teaching styles are used to reach every student. I believe education is an equal partnership between the teachers, students and parents, where each has a duty and responsibility in order for that learning to take place.

Caris...
Hello! My name is Valerie Caris and this is my 8th year teaching Special Education in Chandler. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts but have lived in Arizona since 2008. I live in Gilbert with my husband, our dog named Tuukka and we are expecting our first child this September! I am looking forward to all the adventures and memories this new school year will bring!
My Education and Professional Background
I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona (go Wildcats :) ). After I graduated in 2012, I moved to the Phoenix area and have been teaching in Chandler ever since.
My Educational Philosophy
Our Classroom Philosophy: Our job is to foster independence, both functionally and academically in our students. Our students have some disadvantages, therefore they need to learn to self-advocate. When given a crutch, anyone will use it (learned helplessness). In the long run, we're not educating children, we're educating future citizens. They are developing life-long habits in learning, behavior and functional skills.

Dobbins...

I have been teaching over 25 years and over 5 of those years teaching music. Music has been part of my life ever since age three in schools, churches, and in the community. I grew up in a musical family and played clarinet 10 years. Later I learned guitar, piano, keyboard and soprano recorder.
My Education and Professional Background
I have associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Christ for the Nations Institute, the University of Arizona, and Grand Canyon University respectively. I am also Kodaly certified and Orff-certified with level 1 for both. I frequently attend Kodaly and Orff Saturday workshops to meet new colleagues and benefit from wonderful instructors!
My Educational Philosophy
I believe learning should be fun, active and hands-on. That’s why we do many movements with solfege, hand-clapping songs, and folk dances. We also sing, play instruments, create music, work in groups, and do active listening, I also like to intertwine other subjects like reading, history, geography, and science. I believe a good music program develops confidence and poise. I also believe it should develop creativity, good character, good teamwork, and great musicianship skills!
