Norton...
Hello! My name is Mrs. Norton and I am SO THRILLED to be your teacher this year. This school year will be like no other year that we've had but I’m excited to embark on this adventure together. We will be learning a lot while working continuously on our growth mindset and building positive relationships in our classroom and school community. Go Riggs Roadrunners!
My Education and Professional Background
I’m originally from California, where I graduated from SDSU with my BA in Liberal Studies and then my multiple subject teaching credential. I then taught both first and second grade for 7 years before having my twins and staying at home to raise them. After moving to Arizona two years ago, I graduated from ASU with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education. I'm proud to be a part of the Riggs family as both a teacher and parent.
My Educational Philosophy
The children in my class work together to create an environment where every student is comfortable and willing to take risks with enthusiasm and confidence. I believe that every student not only has the ability to learn but has the right to be taught in an environment that supports their whole self. My goal is for all students to develop a love of learning with a growth mindset.

Muraco...
Welcome to 2nd grade! My name is Mrs. Muraco. I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and having movie nights with my family. I am married and have 2 sons. I am thrilled to be teaching at Riggs Elementary. I know this is going to be an amazing year together. I am excited to share my love of teaching and learning with you.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from The University of North Dakota in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I decided to escape the cold winters and move to Arizona to begin my teaching career. I spent 8 years teaching 2nd grade in Mesa and transferred to Chandler Public Schools in 2013. I taught 2nd grade for 2 years in Chandler before moving to Missouri. My family and I returned to Arizona in 2018 and I was lucky enough to come back and teach in Chandler. I am so excited to be a part of the 2nd grade team at Riggs!
My Educational Philosophy
I strive to provide a positive classroom where all students feel safe and excited to learn. I believe that it is important to engage in what you are learning, so I try and make things meaningful to students and explain how the material being taught can be used in daily life. I also feel it is important to persevere and understand that it is okay to try things many times before getting it right. Kindness is also something I expect everyone to practice in and out of the classroom. When we focus on kindness, trying our best, and perseverance, we can do anything.

Welcome to 4th grade at Riggs Elementary School. This is an amazing school and I look forward to helping your child learn and grow. We are going to have a fantastic year!
My Education and Professional Background
This will be my 15th year teaching and my 12th year here at Riggs. I have taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. I have a Bachelor and a Masters degree in education from Ottawa University and a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Arizona State University (Go Devils!).
My Educational Philosophy
Each student has unique, individual strengths and is a valued part of our learning community. Learning is a lifelong adventure and my goal is to instill a love of learning in all of my students. I believe it is important to create and maintain a positive, caring, and engaging learning environment where students feel respected, appreciated, and safe. In our classroom, we respect each other, we try our best, we are a team, we learn from mistakes, and we celebrate each other’s success.

Johnson...
Welcome 6th Grade Roadrunners! I am Mrs. Johnson and I'm so excited to have the opportunity to be your teacher. I am anxious to start this incredible adventure together and think that we'll have a fabulous year exploring, making discoveries and learning all of the awesome things we have planned.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my teaching degree from Kansas State University and my Masters in Education from NAU. I have taught all grades 2nd - 6th.
My Educational Philosophy
Students learn because they are inspired to do so. The interactions with peers open their minds to new ideas and develop their ability to communicate. The opportunities to make their own discoveries through inquiry create problem solvers and critical thinkers. Students learn best in an environment that recognizes and provides for individual needs. A classroom should be a place that is inviting, comfortable and stimulating. All students should feel a sense of belonging which contributes to the cohesiveness of the class. High expectations motivate and guide students to be responsible and keep them actively engaged in their learning.

Greeting and welcome to third grade at Riggs Elementary School.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my Bachelor's of Science Degree from Ottawa University. In the past, I have been involved with teaching district level classes, helping teachers set up their classroom, and a part of the Teachers Assisting Teacher team. I have been teaching since 2003.
My Educational Philosophy
I have a great love for working with children and their parents to meet their educational goals. Education is my lifetime career. I have specific goals for this year. First, I like to make school an enjoyable experience. I want your child to love to learn as much as I do. I believe, with the right support, all children can experience success. This is a wondrous time when your child will not only learn new things, but also develop an 'academic independence' where students will begin to take on more responsibilities in school and at home. I look forward to working with you and your child as a team to make this an exceptional school year.

Mahon...
Hello! My name is Mrs. Mahon, and I would like to welcome you to Riggs Elementary. I was born in Crosby, North Dakota, but have lived in Chandler since I was a little over a year old. I am a product of the Chandler District and am thrilled to represent such a great district. I am married to my best friend and we raise his (our) high school age son together. I can't wait to begin my teaching career!
My Education and Professional Background
I received my Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University in May 2016. Prior to teaching, I worked full-time in the mortgage and insurance field while pursuing my teaching degree at night. I enjoyed what I was doing, but I knew I wanted to make a difference. After spending time in my older sister's classroom I realized that teaching was my passion.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every student should have the opportunity to receive the best education possible. I want my students to feel welcomed, respected, and safe. In order to do that, building a comfortable community of learners is my main objective. I want to develop skills and provide a safe place to learn and grow. By creating an environment that respects student input, a willingness to participate naturally enfolds. I hope to impact your child and invite them into our safe place.

Welcome to Band! I teach at Riggs, Ryan, Hancock, and Chandler Online. I am so excited that your child chose to learn an instrument. It can be one of the most rewarding experiences. I hope your child enjoys learning their instrument as much as I enjoy teaching it. I thank you for supporting your child with this endeavor. Feel free to email me(name/school) with ANY questions or concerns you may have and anything else you feel I should know about your child to make this experience most enjoyable.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my music education degree in 1995 from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. My main instruments are flute and oboe but I learned to play ALL instruments in college, including strings. I have taught many areas and levels of music from grades k-12 such as general music, choir, and concert band as well as marching band and jazz band. I have been teaching with Chandler Unified School District since 2006 and have taught at almost a dozen district schools including Basha High. I attended graduate school at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Beyond the classroom, I'm a private lesson instructor, a freelance musician and a colorguard tech for the WGAZ circuit.
My Educational Philosophy
Music is a universal language, 'the language of emotions'. For children, music has many benefits. It boosts their brain power and improves their memory. Music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas It teaches them confidence, patience, coordination and socialization. Music can be a much needed connection for kids in ways that other things will not allow. It teaches discipline, fosters creativity and is a great form of expression. Music is Math, langUage, hiStory, readIng, sCience! All of which is food for the mind, body, and soul!

Meyn...
Welcome to 6th Grade at Riggs Elementary. My name is Victoria Meyn and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! I grew up in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, where my entire family still resides. My husband (who is also a CUSD teacher) and I, along with our 2 sons, travel back to visit as often as possible. In my free time, I love vacationing on the beach in San Diego with my family or spending time in our kitchen baking!
My Education and Professional Background
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, with a minor in reading and Biology. I began teaching kindergarten in 1998 in inner-city Philadelphia, before heading out west. I was fortunate to receive a position with CUSD in 2001 and have been with the district ever since. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, third and fifth grades!
My Educational Philosophy
'Work Hard and Be Nice'. Our class motto stems from my philosophy of education. If you give 100% every day (hard work and respect), you can and will be successful. It is my goal to help students discover their passion for learning through interactive and challenging experiences where they can explore their true potential at their own pace and level. Through collaboration with their peers and teacher, students will see endless opportunities unfold before their eyes.

Pope...
Welcome to our class website. Check out the links page and feel free to read my biography.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated Northern Arizona University with a dual degree in special and elementary education. My first two years of teaching I was a resource teacher here at Riggs for 4th-6th grades. I have been teaching fifth grade ever since 2010.
My Educational Philosophy
A teacher's role is to guide, allowing access to information instead of acting as the primary source of information. The students' learning process is created as they learn to find answers to their questions. In order to build knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic ways. Providing students access to activities and allowing appropriate time and space to use materials that reinforce the topic of learning, creates a positive learning environment.

Rockwell...
Welcome to our 5th grade class, Riggs families! My name is Kristina Rockwell, and I am thrilled to be teaching your child this year. I am looking forward to an amazing year of learning with our students. Although I've called many states "home", I have been an Arizona resident for 25 years. When I'm not at school, I enjoy exercising, reading, movies, and spending time with loved ones.
My Education and Professional Background
I attended college at Indiana University, where I earned a B.S. in English and a B.A. in Elementary Education. I also hold endorsements in ELL and Reading. I began my career in 1995 teaching 5th grade in Utah. Since my relocation to sunny Arizona, I have taught 1st and 3rd grades, and I've also worked with K-3rd graders as Literacy Coach. Fifth grade is my favorite, and I feel elated about spending my days with this age group.
My Educational Philosophy
My motivation for teaching is to help children experience social-emotional and academic growth. All children are capable of learning and achieving great things! I believe that we get out of learning what we put into it, so it's important to hold kids accountable for active participation and best efforts. I also feel that character, leadership and relationship-building are crucial to success in every facet of our lives. I want students to learn how to bring out the best in themselves and others.

Welcome to Riggs Elementary Pre- Kindergarten. My name is Saira Urbina, and I will be your child's teacher this year. This will be an exciting year full of learning, discovery, and exploration.
My Education and Professional Background
I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies and a master's degree in Cross-Cultural Teaching with an endorsement in Early Childhood and English as a Second Language. My experience begins with teaching kindergarten with Roosevelt School District in 2011 and then transitioning over to Preschool with Chandler Unified. I've been teaching at Riggs Elementary since July 2017 and love it.
My Educational Philosophy
Preschool is such an important time in a child's life. This is the place where they will learn through discovery, explorations, and interactions with peers. Our classroom will be a place where all ideas are welcome so that we may learn from each other. I can not wait to see the growth that happens this year!

About
Jester...
I am excited to be a part of your child's preschool team. A little about me:I've known my husband since 5th grade. We got married in 1998. We have five children - Brandon, Jesus, Hannah, Sarah, and Maria. We also have a house full of pets including 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 cockateil, and 1 hedgehog. In my spare time I enjoy reading and crafting. My favorite place to be is curled up with a good book and my dogs next to me.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my B.S.Ed from NAU in Elementary and Special Education with an emphasis in learning disabilities in 1992. In 2012, I went back to school to obtain my cross-categorical certificate as well as my early childhood endorsement. I have worked with students from preschool through 12th grade.
My Educational Philosophy
Every child has the right to learn in the way that suits him or her. As a teacher it is my job to find that way and help your child grow academically, emotionally, socially and physically in a caring and safe learning environment.

Dalby...
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is a year of firsts and new adventures for you and your child. We are a team, and together, we will explore and learn many new things.
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my Masters in Early Childhood Education from ASU in 2014. I earned my Bachelor's Degree, also from ASU, in Music Therapy, where I worked with children with varied abilities in a clinic setting to reach non-musical goals (such as improving social skills, improving verbal skills, etc.) I found that I loved working with my young clients so much that I decided to further my education and become a kindergarten teacher!
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that no two children are alike, including personalities, abilities, needs, as well as their best mode of learning. It is important to experience each form of learning (using physical methods, aural skills, etc.) because the more avenues their learning takes, the higher their chances of success.

About
Estrella...
Hello! My name is Mr. Estrella, but often, students refer to me as Mr. Star. I am the new general music teacher at Riggs Elementary School. I am so very excited to get started working with the wonderful students at Riggs! On this site you will find important information about school concerts and events, practice recordings for students to use at home, and useful music links for students to utilize outside of the classroom. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns!
My Education and Professional Background
Mr. Estrella has a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater, MA) in music education, with a focus on vocal music education, and a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University in Educational Administration. This will be Mr. Estrella’s 10th year in education, and 8th in the music classroom. Mr. Estrella has taken choirs of many sizes (20 to over 150 K-8 students) to many exciting venues throughout his career, including Chase Field and Fenway Park to perform the National Anthem before professional baseball games, and Gila River Arena to perform holiday music during Arizona Coyotes games. Mr. Estrella has been a choir performer as well, performing in various venues in Greece, Spain, and Puerto Rico.
My Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy is quite simple and comes from a book I read in college: Everyone has a place in the choir. We all come from different backgrounds, different places of origin, different beliefs, and different goals and expectations for our lives. The great thing about music is that it is universal, and no matter where you come from or what you believe, music is something we can all be involved in and enjoy. Not everyone that comes to the music classroom is trying to be a professional musician, but everyone in the classroom can make music. My goal in the music classroom is to ensure that students are enjoying what they are learning, so that when they leave school that day, they have something fun and exciting to share when a parent asks, “What did you learn at school today?” Therefore, no matter your musical talent or your aspirations as a musician, know that you will always have a place in my choir or music classroom
