Welcome!

Welcome to Perry High School and Investigative Science. This year you will get chances to explore the world around you in a very exciting and meaningful way. This inquiry-based course is designed to investigate chemistry, physics, biology, and earth-space concepts in order to develop your analytical skills and problem-solving techniques. Concepts explored in the course develop foundational knowledge that ensures success in subsequent high school science classes.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated with a BS in Biology in 1994 and then went on to graduate with distinction in 1998 with a Masters in Curriculum Development from ASU's TEAMS (Teaching Excellence in Math and Science) program. My graduate program had the goal of bringing scientists into the classroom. In 2009 I received a Master's of Education in Educational Leadership. I have been teaching science to students from 7th-12th grade for 17 years.

My Educational Philosophy

Science has always been a subject that excites and intrigues me. From the outer reaches of the cosmos, to the microcosm of the cell or the atom, the grace with which a bird can propel itself through air, the apparent balance found within and among living things, the miracles of modern technology - The natural world is full of beauty, patterns, and mystery waiting to be discovered. It is only natural to be curious and ask the questions why and how and to want to understand the universe. My main goal is to get my students to think critically, scientifically, and creatively in order to solve problems and answer questions about the world. I challenge my students to come to appreciate and understand things which sometimes we take for granted. I hope to pass on my excitement and incite the natural curiosity in my students.
