Welcome!
Welcome to Mandarin or Spanish! Knowing additional languages has opened many or for me, and I hope to give my students the opportunities of being multilingual!
My Education and Professional Background
I am passionate about language learning and teaching, as I believe it is an asset to be able to communicate in multiple languages in today's globalized and interconnected world. My undergraduate degree is in Spanish Education from the University of South Carolina. My master's is in World Languages with an emphasis in Mandarin Education from the University of Utah. In studying languages, I have had the opportunity to study abroad at universities and live with host families in China, Taiwan and Spain. I have a certificate in K-12 Online Teaching and Computer Science teaching certificate through Rio Salado College. In 2019, I had the opportunity to participate in a federal Fulbright Hayes Group Project abroad, where I was able to observe, collaborate, and learn from top schools in China, reflect on my teaching, and gather curricular materials. AP Mandarin students may see me on the AP Daily video series from the Collegeboard!
My Educational Philosophy
Language learning to be able to communicate well requires study (and learning how to study), practice, initiative, and persistence. Learning how to learn is a part of the process. Every student is capable of learning to speak Spanish or Mandarin, no matter their starting point.
