Welcome!
Welcome to 5th grade! It's going to be a great year; we will be learning so much and having some fun while we do it.
My Education and Professional Background
My name is Terri Schilling; this is my 22nd year teaching, twenty-one of them as a fifth grade teacher! I love kids at this age and the curriculum is interesting, as well as challenging. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and a dog mom. My family means the world to me; my husband, Michael, son, Kete and his wife, Gina, daughter Lisa and her husband, Bryan, my grandkids, Dillon and Autry, and of course, my four dogs, Kindle, Izzy, Zooey, and Trixie.
I received my Bachelor of Science and my Masters of Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My love of teaching came later in life and I am so glad it did. It is being with my students that makes me realize this is the best career for me.
I am passionate about teaching because it allows me to make a positive impact on the lives of students and shape the future generation. The joy and satisfaction I derive from witnessing my students' growth, both academically and personally, is unparalleled. Teaching provides me with the opportunity to inspire young minds, foster their curiosity, and ignite their love for learning. I believe in the portrait of a learner initiative, and I am dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and empowered. Seeing the spark of understanding in a student's eyes when they grasp a new concept or achieve a breakthrough is incredibly rewarding. Teaching is not just a profession for me; it is a calling, and I am grateful for the privilege to guide and support students on their educational journey.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every child is an individual and learns in different ways. Every child has different circumstances and the teacher should always be aware of that. Every child should feel safe when in the classroom. The classroom should be student-centered. Learning should be engaging, fun, and challenging. Teachers should have high expectations and should always be an example for the students to follow. Teachers should be partners with parents in their children’s education. Involvement within the school community is important to the school’s success.
