Welcome!
Welcome to our 5th grade class, Riggs families! My name is Kristina Rockwell, and I am thrilled to be teaching your child this year. I am looking forward to an amazing year of learning with our students. Although I've called many states "home", I have been an Arizona resident for 25 years. When I'm not at school, I enjoy exercising, reading, movies, and spending time with loved ones.
My Education and Professional Background
I attended college at Indiana University, where I earned a B.S. in English and a B.A. in Elementary Education. I also hold endorsements in ELL and Reading. I began my career in 1995 teaching 5th grade in Utah. Since my relocation to sunny Arizona, I have taught 1st and 3rd grades, and I've also worked with K-3rd graders as Literacy Coach. Fifth grade is my favorite, and I feel elated about spending my days with this age group!
My Educational Philosophy
My motivation for teaching is to help children experience social-emotional and academic growth. All children are capable of learning and achieving great things! I believe that we get out of learning what we put into it, so it's important to hold kids accountable for active participation and best efforts. I also feel that character, leadership and relationship-building are crucial to success in every facet of our lives. I want students to learn how to bring out the best in themselves and others.
