Welcome to AMS Social Studies!
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my BA in Secondary Education and History with a minor in Political Science from the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State. This is my 5th year as a Basha Bear and 13th year as a middle school social studies teacher. I sponsor AMS Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, and am the team lead for the Accelerated Middle School program. If you need anything please feel free to reach out!
My Educational Philosophy
I choose to be a teacher because I want to inspire curiosity and self-discovery. I enjoy helping students figure out who they are and what they believe. I want to help them realize that they have the ability to be great people and support them as they figure out how to make that happen. I choose to be a social studies teacher because understanding the past gives us insight into why things are the way that they are in our world. I view history as a series of individual stories. I want kids to know that their individual life story is writing the history that their grandchildren will hear about in future years, and that their actions will determine what kind of world those grandchildren will live in, so they better step up to the challenge!
