About
Mattson...
Welcome to 8th grade! I look forward to meeting all of you and working together to learn about and examine the world around us.
My Education and Professional Background
I attended Arizona State University and received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a certificate in Civic Education, a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, and a minor in Psychology. I had the extreme privilege of completing my student teaching at Bogle Junior High in 2013. Since then I have most recently worked as a paraprofessional in CUSD's dedicated EDGE program located at Chief Hill Learning Academy.
My Educational Philosophy
It is my philosophy that-especially in our world today-it is vital for young people to be ready to engage with complex and uncertain issues using critical and rational thinking. The Social Studies serve as a lens through which we can view the world around us and make informed judgments based on evidence. To this end I emphasize educational opportunities where students can collaborate, engage with primary sources, and attempt to understand alternative perspectives. We all approach the world with a certain set of experiences and talents, but there is no reason that we should let ourselves stop there. There is always room for growth!
