Welcome to 9th grade English!
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in English Education. I then taught at Mohave Middle School in Scottsdale, teaching AVID and 8th grade Language Arts. Although I loved the squirrely middle school age, I decided to move on up to high school. This is my second year at Perry High School and I am happy to be here!
My Educational Philosophy
I'd like to think of myself as a facilitator, rather than a source of all knowledge. I encourage my students to learn how to think for themselves, as real knowledge is knowing where to find the answers. Therefore, my teaching style will include modeling the standard/skills being taught, the use of higher level thinking questions, and plenty of collaboration and group work. My ultimate goal is for my students to become independent learners. I also place particular importance on respect in my classroom. Just to reiterate our fabulous district's goal, kindness is always expected. Our words should be selected carefully knowing how impactful they are. Differences are valued and embraced, and team work leads to excellence. This will make the classroom environment safe and comfortable, one that will enable learning and growth.
