About
Wisniewski...
Welcome to Mr. Wiz's web page. Hopefully you find what you are looking for here. If you do not, don't hesitate to contact me via email.
My Education and Professional Background
My educational training consists of a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in Astrophysics, a master's degree from the University of Colorado in Aerospace Engineering and a doctoral degree in Educational Mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado. My professional career includes 15 years of teaching advanced math and physics at the high school level and another 10 years of part-time teaching at the collegiate level as an adjunct professor in the math department. Additionally, I've coached football for 29 years at the high school and collegiate levels. My college career included stints at Princeton U, the U of Wyoming, U of Montana, U of Northern Colorado and a few other schools. For the last 7 years I served as the head coach at Red Mountain HS in Mesa.
My Educational Philosophy
My philosophy of education is to build a strong rapport with my students, establish a strong culture of learning and to challenge my students to learn mathematics on a conceptual level. My goal is for my students to be able to apply the mathematical principles they learn in new contexts and situations they have not encountered before. This requires conceptual understanding as compared to rote memorization of equations. In my opinion, true learning is demonstrated only when one is able to transfer knowledge and understanding to a novel situation. Solving the same problem one has seen before with the only difference being new numbers does not demonstrate true understanding.
