Welcome!
After a rewarding career in the aerospace and defense industries, I have re-purposed my NAU degrees in Mathematics, to support my second career in education. I have taught at other high schools in the East Valley, but Hamilton High School is my school of choice. I am married to a career educator who is a native of Arizona. Together we raised three grown children and one grown dog. The dog still answers when I call.
My Education and Professional Background
M.S. Mathematics, Northern Arizona University, 1992.
My Educational Philosophy
I am eager to share my enthusiasm for the elegance of mathematics with my students. I use my life experience as a personal example and testimony of why we do math. I believe every student has the right to be challenged to progress beyond his or her own expectations. I persistently maintain a positive, constructive learning environment that lets students participate in the success of the class. When together we succeed, it is meaningful and encouraging for all students. Students who may be reluctant to participate see positive results for those who do, and they seek to be part of the winning team, rather than sit on the sidelines. I ensure that part of my instructional time allows small group or individual work so that I can meet with students to discuss goals, expectations and progress. Grades and assessments are never a surprise to my students. They are made aware of their potential, and recognize their agency to achieve that potential.
