Jacobson Elementary (2019-2020)
Now that learning has moved online due to COVID-19 precautions, the second grade teachers at Jacobson Elementary were looking for ways to maintain personal connections with their students. As the team was planning for their students, they picked up on a trend inspired by the book series Flat Stanley. The second grade teachers, as well as many teachers across the country, chose to adopt this idea as a way to bridge the social distancing gap between themselves and their 2nd grade students. The team created a bingo board filled with activities that their students could complete with their "flat teacher." They mailed the bingo board, a poem, and their Bitmoji Air Hugs image to all of their students. They asked their families to send them videos and pictures of the students doing these activities with their "flat teacher." The teachers plan to make a COVID-19 scrapbook with all these pictures to remember the time they were apart, but together in their hearts.

Jacobson Elementary (2019-2020)
After a lesson from Mrs. Menghini about how germs spread and how to avoid it, each child "sneezed" (a scoop of lotion mixed with glo germ powder). They then took time to touch anything in the classroom that they might touch in a normal day. After that, we turned out the lights and saw the results of our germ spreading. Finally and best of all, they used baby wipes to wipe up all of the germs resulting in a very clean classroom! Mrs. Menghini hopes that this tactile learning will instill in them how important hand washing is! The pictures were a little tough with the low light, but still very cool!

Space Explorers Club offered this experience to all 4th graders to spread awareness and excitement about Mars. The 4th graders had a tour of the map and then completed a geological location scavenger hunt.
