Placement into college classes and course placement

  •

CGCC requires students to take a placement assessment (ACCUPLACER). This assessment can be taken in reading, writing, and/or math. The results determine which classes a student may take and then the concurrent process can begin.

Students also have the ability to have their High School transcript reviewed to determine if they are ready to take a college level class. Ideally, this evaluation takes place when students are considering a Math or English course. With a 3.0 GPA or above in that respective course subject, there is potential to not have to take the ACCUPLACER for course placement.

Students are not expected to take college classes their first semester at CEC. If the first semester is successfully completed, then the student may be ready for college coursework.  However, because students start their college careers here at CGCC, efforts are taken to make sure students are appropriately placed and supported throughout their course experience.
