The Chandler Fire Department developed a program that has provided a benchmark for school fire safety education, inspection, and collaboration.  This program offers Chandler’s elementary schools the ability to receive designation as a “Partnership for L.I.F.E.” school.  To become certified, schools simply need to complete the five components of the program:

    1. Self-Inspections – Twice a year
      • All teachers and custodians conduct a self-inspection of all classrooms and common room fire hazards at the beginning of each semester.

    2. Fire Drill Observation – Once a year
      • Allow CFD to supervise one of the school’s monthly fire drills per school year.
      • Active on-duty crews will come to your school and review staging areas to make sure there won’t be any conflicts in the event of a real emergency.

    3. Firepals Presentation – Twice a year (once a semester)
      • Allow CFD Fire Pals to provide two 1-hour fire safety education visits to all 1st and 2nd grade students.
      • Firefighters who are specially trained will review six basic fire safety messages with your students in two separate interactive sessions – one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
      • Students will take a pre-test prior to the first visit and a post-test after the 2nd visit.

    4. Annual Fire Inspection
      • Pass a code based annual CFD fire inspection completed by a fire inspector. The fire inspector will reach out to get this scheduled.

    5. CPR Certified Staff
      • Ensure that 10% of the school’s staff is CPR certified.
      • Chandler Fire Department will provide CPR training at no cost for school staff to help your school reach this goal. Classes will be held twice a school year, once each semester, and signup is first come, first serve.
