• The IB program at CHS is very robust and has many areas for students to choose.  We have 3 main programs. They are the Diploma Program, Career Program, and the Middle Years Program.  The Middle Years Program is for our freshman and sophomore students. 

    Students in the MYP program need to:

    • Be enrolled in at least one honors class as a 9th grader
    • Be committed to Academic Honesty
    • Have a desire to make connections between your classes and the real world
    • Complete 40 hours of Community Service by April of your sophomore year
    • Log and reflect on your service hours through an online portfolio called ManageBac
    • Use a research topic from Honors English 9 to develop a Personal Project to display in April of your Sophomore year
    • Take a World Language class in 9th and 10th grade  (not a graduation requirement but a requirement of the MYP program)
    • Take a Social Studies class (AP Human Geography or AP Comparative Government) in 10th grade (not a graduation requirement but a requirement of the MYP program)
    • Maintain passing grades in all your classes.  If you drop to a D in any area, attending tutoring and complete make-up work to raise your grade ot at least a C by the end of the semester. 

    The Career Program (CP) prepares students to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lift long skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.  For CP students, diploma program courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the program; the career-related study further suppports the programs academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.  IB students will focus on a career related area of study, such as computer science, culinary, film, visual arts, auto tech, early childhood development, theater, etc.

     

    The Diploma Program (DP) prepared students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasing global society as they:

    • Develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically
    • acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understnaind, studying courses from 6 subject groups
    • develop the skills and a positive attitude toward learning that will prepare them for higher education
    • study at least two languages and increase understandingof cultures, including their own
    • make connections across tranditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the program's unique Theory of Knowledge course
    • undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disciplines in the extended essay
    • enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action and service (CAS)
