Community Service Hours

To qualify as community service, an activity should not directly benefit yourself, it should be for the benefit of others. Service should not be for a grade, or required for a class and should not be paid. Service hours are divided into 2 categories: in-service to the school and general community service.

A minimum 10 hours must be completed in-service to the school (of course you could do more or even all hours in school service). School service can be completed in NHS service committees and projects, through other service clubs on campus, school events, or team service activities, on-campus tutoring, teacher aide work, etc.
-
General Service Hours can be done anywhere in the community as long as the conditions of service are met.
-
All Service hours should be logged on a verification form at the time of service and forms should be signed by the adult authority with contact information where the service hours were completed. Service forms should not be signed by family members.
