International Baccalaureate Schools
Only schools officially approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) are authorized to offer the curriculum and to present candidates for examination. Chandler High School was the first school in Arizona to be selected as an IB School because of the caliber of IB Instructors who are specialists in their subject area. CHS has a 92% success rate in our candidates earning the prestigious IB Diploma. This percentage may vary, but candidates consistently return from their university of choice reflecting that the level of rigor, the intensity and distinguished instruction by our IB teachers, and the total support by the CUSD School Board, our Superintendent and District Administrators, our Principal, and Assistant Principals, Counselors, and staff create an atmosphere of empowerment to perform at their optimum level.
The IB Program is now being offered at 3,083 schools in over 139 countries throughout the world. There are over 880,000 students participating in the IB Program in North America. Significant numbers of IB Diploma recipients have been accepted to prestigious universities throughout the nation. Chandler High School is proud of all our students and especially honored to have consistent FLINN scholarship winners, National Merit Scholars, Baird Scholarship winners, Academy appointments, Ivy League university graduates and numerous prestigious corporations recognizing our candidates with awards.
The International Baccalaureate headquarters is based in Geneva, Switzerland, with administrative offices in London, Maryland, Buenos Aires and Singapore. The Examination’s Office, located at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom, oversees two examination sessions per year, November and May. The May session serves the large majority of candidates; schools in the Southern Hemisphere subscribe to the smaller November session. Some 4,000 individual examiners worldwide participate in the assessment of student work.
Upon the request of the IB Candidate, a final, official IB transcript will be sent to the universities of their choice by the International Baccalaureate of North America (IBNA) regional office. The document will indicate the IB subject the Candidate tested, the score earned on the HL or SL exams taken, the total point score, and if the three additional requirement categories were completed with satisfactorily. Results become available in late July for each May session candidate, which each may access with a confidential password in the official IB site: http://www.ibo.org/
IB candidates are required to pay the costs of the IB exams ordered by CHS. We encourage families to consider participating in the Arizona School Tax Credit Program while the student is attending CHS.
