I was born and raised in the beautiful pacific northwest in Kent, Washington. I attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 2002. My studies there included a study abroad experience in Segovia, Spain. I enjoyed a focus on Spanish language and literature. In 2004 I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at University of Portland in Oregon. I taught middle school Spanish in West Linn, Oregon for 2 years before relocat

My Education and Professional Background

I attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 2002. My studies there included a study abroad experience in Segovia, Spain. I enjoyed a focus on Spanish linguistics, grammar, and literature. In 2004 I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at University of Portland in Oregon. I began teaching IB/AP Spanish in 2012 and I have enjoyed this time of professional growth. . I am stretched in new ways and I feel inspired to try new things every year. I also became the World Language Department Chair in 2014. I have since achieved my National Board Certification, and I was named the 2021 Arizona Teacher of the Year. I work diligently to create a department and classroom community that is focused on growth, collaboration, creativity, and embraces the power of human connections.

My Educational Philosophy

I teach the power of human connections through the Spanish language. Our humanity and connections have the potential to make the world a more empathetic and joyful place.
