The Arizona Department of Education administered a new state standardized examination in the Spring of 2015 called the AzMERIT. Parents and stakeholders of CUSD need to know that while this is a different test, the Chandler Unified School District is anticipated to have the same relative results. For example, in third grade English Language Arts, the Chandler Unified School District had a proficiency rate that was eight percent higher than the state of Arizona proficiency rate on the 2014 AIMS exam. On the 2015 AzMERIT exam, CUSD is expected to have a proficiency rate that exceeds the state of Arizona proficiency rate by seventeen percent. The relative performance of the Chandler Unified School District in comparison to the state of Arizona is statistically predicted to be at least the same as 2014, if not higher.
While the district results are anticipated to stay relatively much higher than the state of Arizona, individual results for each student might be lower. The AzMERIT exam is considered to be a more difficult exam in comparison to the AIMS exam of the last decade. In fact, while about 16% of AIMS exams were the highest scoring category for students ("Exceeds"), only about 8% of the AzMERIT exams were the highest scoring category for students ("Highly Proficient"). If you have questions about your student’s scores, please do not hesitate to contact your school or administrator.
