Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! Chemistry is everywhere and a big part of our everyday life. Chemistry is present in the food we eat, the air we breathe, the cleaners we use, and within all systems in our body! In this class we build a foundation for understanding what is going on at the most basic levels of matter. We work on explanations for things you cannot see, but that are happening right in front of you. Chemistry may sound like a hard class, but do not worry, we will be breaking things down and working together. You got this!!
Are you looking for class information? If you are a student in my class, you will be automatically enrolled in our Google Classroom before the 1st day of school or within 24 hours of registering for my class. Open our Google Classroom page for all of the class information, class outlines, and announcements! You can also download the STUDENT SQUARE app (or PARENT SQUARE if you are a parent). You should automatically be enrolled in my class on the app, and it is a convenient way to send me text messages and get my announcements.
If you are planning for the school year:
- We will be attending all 6 classes on Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays, and BLOCK days will be on Wednesdays & Thursdays. You will meet your 1/3/5 class on Wed and 2/4/6 on Thurs.
- Class Notebook - You will need a composition notebook with 100 pages. College ruled or graphing paper is preferred. We will use this daily and will start right away, so get one as soon as you can!
- Scientific calculator. It needs to have a log button and do scientific notation. (graphing calculator is not required). If you have the means to get your own, do it! You will be able to learn how to use the same one and get comfortable with it. I do have some to borrow if you cannot get your own, but the type and brand are not guaranteed when borrowing. You may also check one out for the year in the bookstore.
- A way to organize your classwork and handouts for our class - Ex: a dedicated folder (paper or plastic) or a section in a binder. You can decide, but you will need to keep track of papers that do not go into your composition notebook
- Don't forget to have something to write with! We use our computers and paper & pencil practice work in class.
- Optional supplies like highlighters, scotch tape, colored pencils, etc are used in class and I have some on hand if you do not have your own.
Whatever you are starting with, we will make it work! I am determined to help make learning happen for EVERYONE, so do not hesitate to reach out to me for help on overcoming a logistical challenge or for clarification. See you in class!!
PS. If you have the means and would like to help out our classroom, we can always use the following: paper towels, tissues, scissors, refill rolls of scotch tape!
