    Welcome!

    Welcome to 2nd Grade! My name is Amanda Russo. This is my second year teaching at San Marcos Elementary, and also my second year with CUSD. I feel so lucky to have found such an amazing community and am excited to be here!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I am an Arizona State University graduate. I received my degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in multilingual/multicultural education. Six years after graduation, and having spent some time in the general education classroom, I attended Rio Salado College to obtain a Special Education certificate, as well. This school year is my 13th in education. I have taught various grade levels, including Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th-6th grade Special Education. In addition, I have experience as a Kindergarten-8th grade Curriculum/Instructional Coach. The 2023-2024 school year marks my ninth year teaching 2nd grade. I couldn't be happier about this! 2nd grade is my absolute favorite to teach!!!

    My Educational Philosophy

    I believe that building relationships and instilling a love for learning is just as important as teaching academic content. I believe in creating a classroom community in which students feel safe, respected, cared for, and free to be their authentic selves. I am here to help your child learn and grow as much as possible. I will put forth every effort this year into getting to know your child for who they are, so that I can best meet their individual needs and to ensure that I support them in making their 2nd grade year, a year to remember!
