    Welcome!

    Welcome to another wonderful school year at San Marcos Elementary School! While this is not my first year teaching, it is my first year at San Marcos, and I am very grateful to be joining such a wonderful team working with such a fantastic community of students and families.

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education from Arizona State University in 2019. I spent the first three years of my teaching career leading a specialized classroom of first through fourth graders with Autism. I have always had a love for teaching, and interned, worked, or student-taught in a variety of classrooms ranging from preschool-8th grade from 2012-2019, before officially beginning my teaching career.

    My Educational Philosophy

    A key component of my teaching philosophy is the belief that students learn best when actively engaged and invested in the objective, topic, or project. One of my favorite parts of working with students with special needs is helping them realize their full capabilities and helping to build their intrinsic motivation for learning by assisting them to develop a sense of pride in their own progress. I believe all students can learn, and it is my privilege as their teacher to teach how they learn best. In my class, I regularly provide my student’s specific feedback to help them celebrate their progress and identify ways they can continue to challenge themselves to see more growth.

    I also believe in the importance of building positive relationships with students. I want my classroom to be a safe space for all students where they feel supported enough to try new academic or social skills, know it is okay to make mistakes, and are ready to learn from them.

    I also strive to be culturally responsive and ensure all students feel safe, represented and respected in my classroom for who they are.
