We have an Andersen Elementary Culture Club, whose mission is to learn about other cultures and teach our Andersen community to promote respect for diversity. The students in the club entered a "Dia de los Muertos" altar contest organized by the Mesa Center for the Arts. The theme of our Altar is "Take Action Now". Students make all the elements that we include in our altar. They will make sugar skulls, bake pan de muerto, make papel picado, and write mini-biographies of historical figures that exemplify a life of action. Our theme is based on the following poem: “Alguien me habló todos los días de mi vida al oído, despacio, lentamente. Me dijo: ¡vive, vive, vive! Era la muerte.” ― Jaime Sabines, Horal / La Señal.

    Dia de los muertos celebration

We are pleased to announce that on Thursday November 9th at 9:00AM in our MPR, we will honor our Veterans and active service members in our Armed Forces with a Salute to Service Assembly. This event will take place from 9:00AM until 9:30AM with guest speakers, songs from our 1st graders, a poem about our Veterans and their service from our Student Council and a special guest musician. This celebration has been a tradition at Andersen for many years!
