Each year, the third graders at Navarrete send SMILE cards throughout the Chandler community. They decorate, self-address, and initiate a chain of anonymous kindness gestures for someone who may need a SMILE. The student is to leave the blank SMILE card with the act of kindness. When a person receives a smile card with an act of kindness, they are to pay it forward. The third person then puts the card in the mail to return to our school. Today, our third grade classes got their first SMILE card back! It came with a beautifully typed letter and an envelope filled with FROST gift cards good for gelato for all 21 students in Mrs. Buist's Bunch! With this act of kindness, the class held a community builder at Frost where they all enjoyed their gelato together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Academics are important, but so are THESE lessons. Third grade cannot wait for more cards to come back! Kindness Cards Photo Album
