    Homework 101

In room 32 we have a Homework Folder and a “Do at your leisure” packet of homework that is on grade level. The packet goes home in the child’s folder on Friday and is to be returned signed, checked over by the parent and  inside the Homework folder on the following Friday. It is without fail that we have weekly homework packets unless it is a short week or right before an intersession break. So if it is Friday and your child arrives home without their homework, you should immediately know that something is not right. This year your child will also have nightly math homework. That will come home in a red folder marked MATH! Please help your child remember to complete the math homework and bring it back to class every day. On Friday there will not be Math homework!

This homework packet should take no more than 15 minutes nightly. The child should be able to sit down and do most of it with very little help, possibly just a few reminders that NEATNESS COUNTS!

In conjunction with a simplistic homework packet is the trust that you’ll also help your child make time and remember to READ DAILY for at least 15 to 20 min. This reading can be independent reading or it can be shared reading with another adult or student. Following each book read, it’s advisable for the adult to ask questions regarding what the book was about (comprehension) If the book is an AR book, make sure to write down the title and quiz number so that it can be tested on! Some people keep little notebooks and a log of titles and quiz numbers and send to school with the child so that they can make sure to get a test taken. (GREAT IDEA)

The students know that what they put into a task is what they will get out of the task!

Practice at any given skill will help the person to get better at it!

So…The more you practice reading, the better you get at it!

It is also good practice to have your child read aloud occasionally to an attentive listener. This will help to improve fluency!

Your Child's weekly homework packet will have a cover page so that you know what is expected for the week. It normally consists of reading 20 min. daily, a math practice page daily and practicing spelling and vocabulary words. We will discuss in detail at the Student Success Night!                     Homework Guidelines and Expectations

    ·       All homework should be complete, neat and on time! Homework in room 32 goes out on Friday, is to be completed, checked by the parent (adult) and returned the following Friday.

    ·       Please use lined paper for all writing assignments. Primary lined paper is recommended.

    ·      PARENTS- Please review all work to make sure it is correct, complete and NEAT

before you initial it!  We are really focusing on neatness and completeness; I appreciate your support!
