    Welcome!

Hello. My name is Leslie Boyd and I am excited to be a 2nd grade teacher here at Patterson.
My family and I moved from southern California to Arizona in 2003. I currently live in Gilbert with my husband, David, our 3 dogs and 1 cat. Both of my sons, Jake and Nick are graduates from ASU. My youngest daughter, Brenna graduated from Perry High School and owns her own business.

    My Education and Professional Background

I am a graduate of California State University, Fullerton.  I began teaching Kindergarten in 1990.  After teaching for 2 years, I became a Child Abuse Counselor at an emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected children.  I worked in that capacity for 6 years.  I then stayed home with my children for the next 6 years.  When my youngest child began first grade, I came back to teaching and began teaching 1st grade in 2005.  In 2008, I was fortunate enough to become a 1st grade teacher at Patterson and helped open the school.  In 2015, I looped with my first-graders and began teaching second grade.  I am so excited I did it because I LOVE second grade!

    My Educational Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is centered around Growth Mindset. I believe all children can learn and grow as long as they are participants in their education. I encourage my students to take risks and not be afraid to make mistakes. We follow the motto "Mistakes are proof you are learning.". My classroom is a safe environment where the students can be themselves and try new things without being intimidated or worried about failing. I am excited to work as a team to make your child's school year a success.
